Trying to decide which hotel to book for our 09 trip to WDW. We haven't stayed in a moderate before because we like to save money on the hotel and splurge elsewhere.

I have narrowed it down to Port Orleans French Quarter and Port Orleans Riverside, but can't decide which one...any opinions/preferences/info would be appreciated!! :upsidedow

We stay at and prefer Riverside. I like the ovreall atmosphere of the "old South" and the grounds are just beautiful and very peaceful. There is a full-service restaurant on-site here, while not at FQ. It is a large resort, though, and some people complain about the size. I don't mind it - I find it gives much more sense of privacy and we like that. The main pool is on an island and therefore set apart from the guest accomodations (keeps it quieter). But there are also smaller pools spread throughout the guest buildings, which are usually very quiet.

French Quarter is much more compact. It has the old New Orleans theme to it. Since these are considered sister resorts by Disney, they are the one exception to the no-pool-hopping rule and guests of either "side" can use the other's pool.

I think it comes down to which "theme" you prefer, as well as whether you want a small, compact resort or a larger one. But you really can't wrong whatever you choose! :goodvibes

I think if you post this on the "Disney Resorts" board, you will get MORE responses. This board is generally for off-site hotels/condos/vacation homes.

That being said, we are staying at POFQ in Oct. We prefer the "smallness" of that resort to RS - we have never stayed at either, it's just what we think we will like. Also, we love the look of the Dragon slide for the kids!

While I can't compare since I've never stayed at POR, I can say that the POFQ was the a great place to stay. I loved the atmosphere, and the gorgeous little courtyard we walked through daily was just perfect. It was quiet, and there's not a lot of walking involved, as it is a smaller resort. DH and I are New Orleans natives, and we compared it to NOLA without the nasty! Haha It was great, but I'm sure you can't go wrong with either one. It comes down to what kind of experience you'd prefer!

We loved POFQ! Have you looked on www.allearsnet.com ? There are links and slideshows to each Disney resort. It always helps me when choosing a resort. Even has menus listed for all of the WDW restaurants.
POFQ was small, which we liked. The serpent pool was amazing and we really enjoyed the atmosphere. No matter where you are in the resort, never a far walk to the bus stop/foodcourt.
I have never stayed at Riverside.
I did stay at Caribbean Beach Resort, very spread out, lots of walking.
Hope this helps!
