Need help - DD needs to bring snack in for school...

I'm new to the school scene, so I'm hoping some of you veteran moms (and dads!) can help me out...

My dd's preschool class takes turns bringing in snack for the kids. I need to come up with something for 21 preschoolers (3 year olds). We need a drink (I'm sure juice...but should I do boxes? Just a big jug of juice?) and snack. The problem with snack is there is a strict no peanuts and no homemade goods policy. I also don't want to be the mom that sugars the kids up before they go home, either. Any suggestions?

Our kids' favorite snack at that age was the hull-less popcorn, the popcorn puffs. I would get a large bag, send in some fun dixie cups and call it a snack. I would send in a jug of juice vs the juice boxes too.
 
You might want to ask the teacher if you should send in a big jug of juice or individual boxes. When DS was in preschool they always had jugs and little Dixie cups. For the snack how about Teddy Grahams or Goldfish crackers.
 

Here's what we did when DD was in preschool: I bought animal-head shaped paper plates at the grocery store (the kind with the ears as separate little sections). We put baby carrots in the big section, ranch dressing in one ear, and French in the other.

Another idea: little tubs of applesauce, with or without graham crackers or Teddy grahams.

And go with the Junior sized juice boxes.

One other thing: should I bring in 2 choices for snack? (ex. the popcorn and cheese, or teddy grams and apples?) I just don't know if I should bring just one thing, or a little variety for each kid.
 
As a preschool teacher I highly recomend Hi-C juice boxes. Cups tend to spill and most juices have a dye that can stain. Hi-C juice boxes have no dye so they don't stain and juice boxes are much easier to handle for such a large group(I need more juice, me too, me, me, me too). Fruits are a great choice for snack, goldfish and graham crackers have been ok for my students with peanut allergies(your parents may feel differently so please check).

NO

It will always come back to haunt you, send one thing and one thing only because you KNOW you will run out of one thing and the next kid will want the other thing and have a total meltdown because he didn't get the other thing.
 
Head to Sam's or Bj's and get those industrial sized boxes of cupcakes...I'm sure the teachers will LOVE those.... ;)

Seriously, go there and get big boxes of Goldfish, pretzels, Teddy Grahams, cheese sticks, GoGurt (ask if there are allergies), carrot sticks....

Most teachers want CLEAR juices. No one wants red stains all over their front! :)

I agree, just take in one thing and no red or purple juice. Apple juice is usually your best bet or maybe white grape.
 
You could always make individual cups of Jell-O with the fruit inside to take to school.

Tell the kids it's Jello with 'candy' inside. They'll slurp it right up. :teeth:

We had to bring a snack for my DS's soccer team's first game. We went to Costco and bought the snack packs of sliced apples, the same idea as the apple dippers at McDonalds except no carmel sauce. They worked out great and I'm sure you could include dip if you didnt want to go that healthy.
 
My dds liked grapes, cheese cubes, string cheese, gold fish and pretzels to name a few :) I would take juice boxes. They are so easy and a lot neater.

This is the same way at my DD's pre-school. I have next Thursday assigned to bring in juice. At our school they do want the juice in bottles. They have these pitchers that they fill up half way with the juice. They want the kids to do it themselves. (with help from the teachers and parent helpers) The parent that brings in the snack is asked to bring in two snacks. Here are some ideas that they have given us:

Fresh fruits and veggies:
carrots, celery sticks, peppers with dip
oranges, apples, bananas, grapes, applesauce

Breads and cereals:
banana bread, zucchini bread, raisin bread
crackers (goldfish, cheese filled, graham)
cereal mixes (mixed with raisins, pretzels and so on)
mini bagels
mini muffins

Redeeming value cookies
figs newtons
graham crackers
oatmeal cookies

Misc:
popcorn
pretzels
granola bars
yogurt
mini sandwiches
cheese sticks

things to spread: (another thing they want the kids to do)
jam, cream cheese, butter, apple butter

i bought a big bag of tyson's chicken nuggetts and did them up in the oven before school. took them with those animal plates (with the ears) and a bottle of ranch/bottle of catsup. apparantly they were a big hit with the kiddos (teacher said they were pretty tasty too :thumbsup2 ).

you can do ants on a log and replace the peanut butter with cream cheese (ds prefers if i get craisins so they can be 'fire ants on a log').

a fun one (but it takes some prep time) is to make rice krispy treats but instead of putting them in a pan to cool, spread them on fruit roll ups and then roll them closed-when they are sliced they look like sushi!

ds's teacher banned all fruit punch and any of those craker package things (either cheese or peanut butter) the kids largely opted to go hungry over eating them.

if they have a microwave its fun to send those little tiny frozen pancakes with again the animal plates and some maple syrup.
 
Goldfish, grapes, go-gurt, graham cracker sticks, cheese cubes, or fresh fruit.

For drinks, you could send milk or a light colored juice with disposable cups, or juice boxes would be easy.

No to the juice boxes, as soon as any kid touches them they squirt. Our preshcool has asked we just bring a bottle. As far as the sancks we do pretzels and Mickey Mouse cheese from Walmart,this is my sons choice and we are bringing it tomorrow for his turn and also his birthday snack. They allow us to bring in a sugary snack for this occasion but he chose the regular. Go figure.
 
I would bring pretzels. My daughters preschool started out with one parent brings snack for the whole class but then some parents would bring in raisins, cheese or carrots and my daughter and other kids are picky and won't touch that stuff so they had to go without snack. One of the paretns brought in pepper strips for the class, only her kid ate them, the rest had to go without snack. I started sending in her own snack every day and after awhile other parents did the same and then they stopped that whole one snack for everyone thing. My daughter lives and breathes peanut butter so she had that most every day (there are no-no peanut rules in our school).
