Need Help, burned the first one and....

Okay so I tried to do the iron on for the tshirts, I really burned the first one, DD was rolling on the floor she was laughing so hard. The second one peeled right off the shirt. I followed the directions, but I could really use some guidance. I purchased Transfermations Design and Iron for light color fabrics. Anyone have any tips? I am usually pretty good with craft type things but I am not having any luck making a few shirts. Thanks for your help!!!!

What kind of transfer paper did you use?

Did you peel the backing off the paper? My mom forgot to do that when ironing on her first transfers.

I bought the Transfermations Design and Iron from Michael's it's for light colors and whites. I can't seem to find a paper backing, unless it is the release paper. The directions say to iron with this on. I'm not sure if this is the paper or not. When I pulled this off the first shirt, you could tell I had burned the transfer, on the second shirt the tranfer pulled away with the paper. I will try once more, than I am giving up. Thanks for the suggestions.
