Need Help!!! argument ensuing

Thanks so much for all the great info. Like my decision, many of you are split. My main concern about BC is the walk to and from (mostly) epcot. In the Unofficial guide it says a 30 min walk, in the passporter it says 10 min. walk. I think after walking all day my four year old is going to give up and ask to be carried. We are planning about a day and a half at each park so it is evenly split as well. Anyway, many thanks again, and I'm going to have my dh read this thread in a moment to bring the issue up for discussion. I'm sure I'll have many questions down the road. I appreciate the help.

Aren't you going to have a stroller for your 4 yo?

The walk isn't that bad to Epcot, we do it all the time. The walk to Disney Studios is a bit longer, 20-30 minutes, but we'd all rather walk then take the bus or boat.

We've always beat the boat to and from DS, when we walk.

Well I am thinking that the person from Unofficial may have been recouping from some major leg surgery if it took them 30 minutes to get back to Epcot! LOL One thing to remember is you will be leaving Epcot from World Showcase area when staying at the BC and not FW area when staying at most other resorts including Poly!

Both resorts are WONDERFUL and my personal preference is the Boardwalk area HOWEVER since you have two different ages of children I would recommend the Poly. Very convenient to both MK and Epcot, Electric Water Pageant at night, a nice beach that you can watch Wishes from and truly a great pool.

You will pay about the same price at both resorts....rooms are much more spacious at Poly!!

In the end you will have a MAGICAL time no matter where you stay....especially given the 2 resorts you are debating! ;)

stroller?? my four year old would scream baby!!!. She is way to independent for that. We haven't owned one in two years. Is this something I should consider? She's rather big 42" 50 lbs and really she not even 4 till February.

YES! Mine rode in one at 6 and 7(Small for their ages). They get so tired of walking all day, trust me she won't care if she looks like a baby. Besides she will see tons of other big kids in them.

I know they rent strollers, anyone know how much?

Strollers are a HUGE benefit to you and your child! They will be exhausted and it can be very hard stopping/going/stopping/going on Mom and Dad because of tired legs or meltdowns! Trust me...she will welcome the stroller with open arms and so will you!

Per Deb's Site:

"Strollers may be rented in each of the theme parks or at Downtown Disney.

Disney has a Length of Stay rental ticket for strollers and wheelchairs. With the Length of Stay rental, you make a one-time payment for as many days of rental that you will need. Upon visiting a theme park, show your receipt at the stroller/wheelchair rental location and you will be directed through the queue with little or no wait. There is a slight discount when purchasing the Length of Stay rental ticket. The Length of Stay option is NOT offered during peak attendance times, however, such as Christmas.

Stroller rentals cost (prices current as of April 2007):

At the theme parks:

Single or infant (newborn to 9 months) strollers: $10/day (no deposit)
Double strollers: $18/day (no deposit)"

Hope this helps!

I haven't stayed at either hotel, but for logistics the Poly will be your best choice because of the ease of getting ot the Magic Kingdom.

We had a 5yo with us and he asked to go to the Magic Kingdom everyday and we took him at some point everyday. Also at that time of year they offered Little Ones Magic Hour. Its a few days a week where Fantasyland is open at 8am. My nephew got to ride the Carousel with Chip & Dale, Stich was on Dumbo when we rode. He played "knees toes" with Minnie and Pluto and played duck duck goose with Peter Pan, Wendy and Capt. Hook. We did this as well as ride anything we wanted in Fantasyland. It will be really easy to get to the park early from the Poly then return to hotel for an afternoon break or even have lunch back at the hotel rather than at the park. There are also reports of SAB being somewhat frieghtening for young ones, though perhaps a non issue for your little girl.

The comment about SAB closing early is a big flag for me. We took advantage of our resort pool being open until 11 or 12. It was actually soothing after a day in the park and a really nice way to end the day w/o the sun beating down on you.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the Poly is on the seven seas lagoon. Just about every night there is an electric water parade on the lagoon that you'd be able to enjoy from the Poly. We saw it while having dinner at Narcoossee's. Our 5yo loved it and so did I (I'm a bit older than 5). You can also take a boat from the Poly to MK, a nice option. We took it from MK to GF for dinner then from GF we hopped off to take a stroll through the Poly. We took the monorail back to MK for our resort bus (Disney trans rocks).

There is a kids club at the Poly, Neverland, that is apparently the largest and it seems to get rave reviews. Your older one just misses the cut off, but the it might be something to consider for the litte one. The reveiws I've read is many cry because they don't want to leave when the parents come to get them. I think that's about the best endorsement you could get from a kid!

The one consistent complaint I've read about the boardwalk area resorts is the lack of counter service (CS) restaurants. You'll have Captain Cook's right in the hotel open until 11pm. There is nothing at the Beach Club and you have to head over to the Boardwalk to get get to the Boardwalk Bakery.

We are planning a deluxe stay on our next trip. We are looking forward to a stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Further away, but dedicated efficient buses should be just fine for us.

Finally, I've read about split stays. I'm not sure of the length of your stay, but generally on vacation I just want to be there, so hopping, unless I'm on a cruise and to ship is "hopping" or just one night (ie. I have yet to unpack) wouldn't be for me. I can't imagine that it would be ideal for a family of four, but perhaps that's my narrow view; lots of families report doing this.

Let's not hve a fight break out though! I'm in your corner if it does!

During our summer stay at BC, we requested a room close to Epcot. We could make it to the gate in three minutes or less, depending on who was walking with us. I'd have to agree with the major leg surgery comment!

There is a kid's club at BC and they give you an activity sheet when you check in so you can see what activities are offered to everyone, not just those in the kid's club, for each day. They had everything including treasure hunts!

Strollers aren't just for babies. She may not want one at first, and that would be fine, but the more she sees, the more she will realize there are many kids older than 2 that are in strollers. During our week at BC and going to every attraction we could fit in, DD16 asked if she could get a stroller! I just explained that I wasn't pushing her, but she could push me!!

DO THE SPLIT. DO THE SPLIT. DO THE SPLIT

IT WILL BE FUN

:thumbsup2  :cheer2:

BC or poly during F&WF?!!
so what is the question? ;)

(if there were a big event at the MK, i would def pick the poly. but during F&WF, no question: anything in the BW area :thumbsup2 )

btw, the walk is maybe 5 minutes to IG.....it's like have your own entrance to the park :cloud9:

We stayed at the Boardwalk a couple of weeks ago, and picked up a sandwich at the Beachclub Marketplace one evening, and then walked over to see Illuminations.

I HAVE MAJOR ISSUES WITH MY FEET WHILE AT WDW and was able to walk from BC to Epcot with no problem. It took me at most 10 minutes to hobble from BC to Epcot. Walking from BW to Epcot is a toss up for me. I try to figure out if there are a lot of people waiting for the boat and if I can see it or not, and whether or not my feet are killing me at the time. If the boat just left the dock, I bite my tongue and hoof it. As for the Studios, I would never, ever consider walking from any of the Epcot resorts, but I see several fit people doing it all the time. BTW, BC has started showing movies on the beach. POTC3 was being shown the night we were there.

Yes definately keep it in mind! Even if you don't grab one right away, you can always get one later in the day if you daughter starts to drag. Face it, walking around at Disney World all day is tiring, and even children who have been out of strollers for a while may want one. Plus having a stroller gives you a great place to put all of your stuff!:)
