Ok--could really use some experienced advice. Mom and I are taking my kids (ages 3 and 11 months) and my 2 neices (ages 7 and 9) to Disneyland Sept 23-27. Our current reservation is for 2 standard view rooms at the GC with the senior discount (35%). Since the 4th night free promotion just came out, we are reevaluating our reservation (and will definately be changing it--I just don't know how yet).

OPTIONS
I can book the same room with getawaytoday and save $216.00, or book with Walt Disney Travel and have TTMM access for a savings of $154.00

OR book a 2 bedroom suite at the DLH for just $11.00 more, also with Walt Disney Travel.

THOUGHTS
With a 2 bedroom suite we are guaranteed to be with one another, whereas two seperate rooms could be on different floors, down the hall, etc from eachother.

We'll certainly have more space in a two bedroom suite, right?

Is the further walk from DLH enough to make us wish we stayed at GC (with the little kids we will definately return to the room each day, and every inch will count when trying to make it to EE)?

We expect to spend time at the pool--DLH seems more interesting for the kids.

My mom is used to the good things in life. I have heard mixed reviews about the "age" of DLH and REALLY want to avoid any complaints/comments from her.

If we decide on the 2 bedroom suite in the DLH, is there a tower or floor I should request?

So, stay at GC in 2 standard rooms or move to DLH with 2 bedroom suite?
I'd really appreciate any input...

Thanks in advance.

I would choose the suite - you don't have to sit on your beds you have couches and chairs - when you put the little ones to bed you have a place (living room) for the grownups to visit or watch tv or read a book. Yes the Disneyland Hotel is older but it still has charm and touches of magic (pixie dust, Mickey hands, etc.). The monorail is just steps from the Disneyland Hotel. I would request the Sierra Tower - it is the one between the pools and Downtown Disney (where the monorail station is). I think I'm about the age of your mom and we do like the BEST and that is being together with lots of room to get away from each other. :lmao:

the suite only has one bathroom. we usually get 2 connecting rooms. we request them due to small children. we travel with my 3 kids, hubby, and both of my parents each year. we hang out in my parents room after kids go to bed and it is fine. we have thought about the suite, we just really appreciate two bathrooms for our party.

We have been considering a suite for our stay at DL, but can't find much information on them. Is there anywhere with pictures or layout of the suites at various DL hotels? Do the suites automaticaly get concierge service like at WDW?

I stayed in a 1br suite at disneyland hotel a few years ago. I think it has
1 1/2 baths, 2 beds and a pull out couch. No one in my family likes to sleep in a pull out couch, even the young children find it uncomfortable. I do remember the living area being large.

I'm not sure, but I thought the GC did not allow more than 5 people in a suite regardless if their ages. I could be mistaken or my information could have been wrong. I just thought I'd put that out there for you before it was too late to change your reservation.

That being said, as a mom I would rather have the support/company of the other adult in the same room. So I would opt for the suite if possible.

Have fun!

lawyergirl, how old does one have to be to take advantage of the senior discount? Is it 55 or 60?
My Mom might qualify for our November trip.

the senior discount age is 60, and what a difference it makes! As far as the number of people, yes a single room can hold no more than 5 because of fire codes, but we are looking at a TWO bedroom suite--so no problem. :)

Also, the price for the 2 bedroom suite is actually $205 less than our current reservation, and just $11 more than 2 standard rooms at the GC. I am now leaning towards the suite, but am concerned about the added distance for walking from DLH to the parks, and when we see the GC, how much regret we'll have because of the luxury of the hotel...

Decisions! At least these are the toughest decisions in my life right now--what the heck am I worried about?!

Thanks all--if anyone else has any input I'd love to hear it.

Paradise Pier suites have two bathrooms. The problem with connecting rooms is that they will not guarantee that you get connecting rooms.

Well, a big selling point to the GCH is how much closer to the parks it is...but honestly, the distance is negligible. It's like hearing how much closer your across-the-street neighbor is to the park.

I think this map might be helpful to you: http://gocalifornia.about.com/cs/disneyland/l/bl_camap_dl.htm

When you look at it, keep in mind that the Sierra Tower of the DLH overlooks Downtown Disney--you literally cross a small street and you're in DTD.

I've always felt that the DLH was posh, but I'm not used to the finer things in life (I don't think), and I also think that PPH is pretty posh, too.

With your comment about "my Mom is used to the good things in life", you want to stay at Grand. Much newer and better than the DLH. Everything is in one hotel with very nice restaurants. Unfortunately, with Disneyland, they won't guarantee two rooms connecting. That would make it easier because of the 2 bathrooms. They charge more for the Suite and that is where they want us. :-) I'm in the same situation and have asked for two rooms connecting. We need the two bathrooms with the adults in the party. The lobby of the Grand is simply gorgeous! You asked for pictures. You can search or try allearsnet.com. They have a Disneyland link with an accomodations view. They have some pictures of a room. The Grand now have flat screen TV's.

As far as the distance from the Grand to the park vs. DHL to the park depends. At the Grand, it depends on the view you have and how far you have to walk back to the lobby to get out. There is a side entrance from the Grand to DCA. Or, you go through Downtown Disney to get to the parks.

Whatever you decide, have a great time!

I would definitely take the suite. The rooms are DLH are not that outdated, as they just remodeled them. Yes, the GC is more beautiful, but the rooms are on the small side as well as their suites, and I am talking from experience. For a two bedroom suite at DLH ask for the sierra tower, or one of the suites that are on the corner facing Disneyland in the bonita. They have the only outdoor patios in the whole hotel and you can watch the fireworks from them. That is what we had for our wedding and it was great. Good luck and have fun.

so dose a two bedroom suiet in the dlh tower that over looks down town disny, have a balconey? (were getting concerage too.)

The Sierra Tower and all rooms at the hotel have doors that open, but the balcony is literally about one foot deep. There are obviously no rooms for chairs, but those suites are sometimes a little bigger. Only those corner rooms have the balconies. No matter what, a suite is great to have.

I'd stay at GC with two rooms, more than likely you will get connecting, we did last October. Being right at DCA and DTD make it so easy to head back to the room for rest and swimming. With two connecting rooms you will still be able to put kids to sleep in one room and have another room for others to watch tv and chill. Now when we went the monorail was not running, so perhaps that makes up for the distance in walking from DLH I don't know? I still would stay with the two rooms at GC rather than a suite at DLH.

Thank you to everyone for all your help. I will call back tomorrow and see if all the choices are still available. I really appreciate the input. I guess we really can't go wrong!
