I've never been a big junk food person. But my weight and bp are way too high. I'm taking my weight loss seriously now. Suddenly I want things I never wanted to have. Things like entenmann's cakes, ice cream, cupcakes, etc. I'm tired of popcorn.
Does anybody have some healthy snack alternatives. I'm also trying to keep salt at a minimum too.

I love precut celery sticks with Rondele cheese or cream cheese! On the WISH board there is a link to low carb/low sugar recipes - find the 3 minute chocolate cake, what a treat!

Unsalted almonds. They are very good for you, and filling, and they taste good, too. If you don't like them try to find an unsalted nut you do like. For the filling factor, they're hard to beat.

Apples, of course. Lots of fiber, hardly any calories. I like Macintosh best. Load up on fruit in general.

String cheese can be convenient, in moderation.

Good luck with the dieting!

i'm down at least 12 pounds. I wouldn't get on the scale for the first two weeks so I don't really know what my starting weight was.
I've been eating unsalted almonds and love them. Forgot about celery which I love. I do need a cake substitute. I'm going to try some sugar free pudding and low fat cool whip tonight.

"Healthy snacks, healthy snacks
We love to eat (yum) healthy snacks
Carrots, bananas, and celery too
We love to eat healthy snacks with you."

Okay this is from someone who spent WAY too much time watching Blues Clues with all her kids when they were little. As soon as I read the title of your thread that was the first thing that popped into my mind. So sorry. Hopefully any others with little ones will understand! :goodvibes

Good luck BTW! :flower: :wizard:

Blue Bunny sugar free fat free ice cream bars -90 calories!

Apples, baby carrots, low fat vanilla yogurt with grapes and granola, the celery with Rondele cheese sounds really good....

When I snack I try to make sure it's balanced (i.e. protein, carbs, and some fat), so it will keep me fuller longer. Just having carbs will sometimes make me hungrier lately.

Some of my favorite 'snacks' -
LF Cheese and whole grain crackers
LF Cheese and fruit
glass of milk and some nuts
Whole wheat tortilla quesadilla
1/2 turkey sandwich with some avacado.

The sugar free pudding is great!!! So is the jello!

I like Pria Bars, fruit flavoered yogurt with fruit and Splenda in a blender makes a great smoothie, baked tortilla chips and salsa, grapes, sugar free jello.

I'm doing the same thing this winter, trying to "be good" and feel better about my weight. I was talking with a co-worker about it, I told her...

Slim fast isn't too bad, especially if you put it in a blender with some ice, a banana...

and a Snickers bar!

Mmmmm...my favorite is Reduced fat Triscuits(they may have reduced sodium ones too-although I don't even know how much sodium regular ones have) and salsa. It is so good! Ok, great, now I'm hungry.

If you drop dollops of the fat free Cool whip on some parchment paper and then freeze them, you have a great snack! It satisfies a sweet tooth perfectly.

ETA: I got this idea from another DIS'er and I love it!

I have just what you need! DH and I are both down about 10 pounds since January 1, and I've had a really hungry couple of days. When I was grocery shopping after work, I looked specifically for something that would make a treat-like snack on the way home. I got Sara Lee whole grain bakery style bread in cinnamon and brown sugar flavor. It has 100 calories, tastes absolutely wonderful and even has fiber! There are two other flavors: cinnamon raisin and blueberry.

sugar free chocolate pudding with slices of strawberries or bananas and fat free cool whip is very good and satifies your chocolate craving. You can also use sugar free banana pudding and mix it with the chocolate pudding and that is very good too!

Cool whip is good..Just for incase you get one of the 'incontrolible cravings"

String Cheese

Nuts

Fruits

i had sugar free butterscotch pudding with cool whip. It was so good and absolutely hit the spot. Got the sweet tooth covered and it was something creamy that didn't feel diet like.
I kind of like to be really structured when i'm dieting otherwise I go overboard. I was doing good doing that and then all of a sudden I started wanting cake.

Take one reduced fat graham cracker and break it in half. One one side scoop fat free cool whip. Place the other half of the cracker on top to make a sandwich. Wrap it in plastic wrap and freeze it for a few hours. Yummy. And only 1 pt on Weight Watchers. Other ideas: Slim a Bear ice cream sandwiches, Skinny Cow ice cream bars, dried fruit and low calorie kids fruit snacks, like Scooby Doo snacks...we love them and they are a better alternative to gummy bears which are my weakness :)

Not sure how healthy, but low fat...low fat cinnamon graham crackers. Pretty good. Also, those 100 calorie packs...not the chips ahoy, but the other ones, chips deluxe maybe? or sandies cookies. Pretty tasty.
