Hi guys,

Its been a while since I have been on the boards, but I need some ideas and I hoped some of you might could help. I am not very creative so this kind of things are hard for me!!

We are travelling this weekend to stay with the parents of one of my neighbors (lives about 4 hours from us - near the coast). My neighbor and I are very close as well as our children. We have been to her parents one time before so this is not something new.

However, I would like to take her parents (who are in their 50's) a gift for letting our family stay with them, but I have no clue what to take. Would just a Thank you card suffice? or should I do more. I know it is alot for our family of 4, plus my neighbors family all staying with them, so I really want to do something nice. We will be staying 4 nights before we return home.

Any ideas???

Thanks!! Kristin

I always like getting invited to go out to a nice dinner.

If it's a family of four staying for the weekend, then I think it warrants more than a thank you card. Especially since it's a holiday weekend. Maybe you could either buy them breakfast one day or make them breakfast (including cleaning up the kitchen). That's always a nice gesture.

Or, the old tried and true gift of flowers is always nice.

Do they have a particular wine or liquor that they like that you could bring? Or do they have a collection -- teapots, snowglobes, shot glasses -- you could add to?

Another nice gift is a picture frame. And then, after you get home next week, find a photo that you took while at their house and send it along with the thank you note.

Get them a gift certificate for a favorite restaurant. A night of not cooking is rarely unappreciated.

When ever we stay at someone house or just go over to visit them, we bring them something. Since your neighbor's parents don't live near you, why don't you bring them things that you made where you live? I would also take them out for meals.

I would take them out to a nice restaurant for dinner at least once and bring a token type gift..yankee candle, precious moment (if they collect them) etc....

Yes - I would agree - take them out to dinner while you are visiting - or if that is not possible - give them a gift certificate to a nice place near their home.

Maybe a basket of assorted foods? Maybe some wine, sausage, crackers, cheese (that doesn't need to be in the fridge) -- Hickory Farm's type stuff...or it could be other foods too, maybe fruits, I like the candle idea too. Or bath items.

I like the dinner idea too, maybe you could find a nice place in the area?
