I need idea for someone who works where I work. I am not really close with her but she is 75 and works full time at a desk job. She is on a restricted diet of some kind so I think edibles are out. Any ideas for a gift for someone fitting that description?

How about a nice plant for her desk? Is that allowed?

Any price range? My mother is that age and diabetic so no sweets for her. But she loves orchids and has several growing in her house. Perhaps a flowering potted plant for your co-workers desk? Hand cream is another nice gift for my mother b/c older people tend to get dry hands especially in the winter. A manicure gift certificate is also a nice idea. If you know what kind of music she likes, a cd might be appreciated. But not an itunes gift card. That generation, generally speaking, does not do ipods.

I know she's traveling for 2 weeks at Christmas so I'm not sure an orchid would be a good idea -- but I think it's a FABULOUS idea in general. Maybe I can use that idea for someone else.:)

With prescription costs, and all of that, I usually give gift cards to the pharmacy they usually go to or a nearby phamacy.

DO you know where she is traveling to? Maybe a giftcard to Wal-mart so she can get stuff for her trip.

IF she likes to read or do crossword puzzles put together a lil basket. If she is flying to her trip that would be something she could use.

warm scarf and gloves, snuggie, warm lap blanket, teas

what does she like doing on her off time, what are her hobbies.

I know you said she's on a restricted diet but how about a gift card for a restaurant where people in the office go for lunch. Or how about a GC for a local grocery store.

Depending on your budget, I'd try to get something like a warm fleece scarf or gloves. You should be able to get something nice in the $10 range if you search out sales. I'd be happy to get a gift like that - even though I'm not 75 :)

A pretty Vera Bradley lunch bag for her to bring to work everyday !

I bought that 2 years ago for my aunt. Saw it over the Thanksgiving holiday in her house with the tags still on it. I really wanted to swipe it! :rotfl:

Does she like the movies? Some theaters sell a gift pack (tickets for 2, drink, popcorn)

how about a really pretty pill box/container? My SIL bought me a "desperate housewives" one a few years ago and I love it! Even if she does not need any medication you can fit mints in there. Maybe a Walgreens or CVS card? I know my mom who is 82 loves both of those places! Also, a nice box of cards, you know, the general sentiment kind so she has them on hand for various occasions, she could even keep them at work with maybe a book of stamps to go with? Altho these days the stamps are the most expensive part!

A snake plant. Unbelievably hardy. I had one in a corner, I didn't touch it for months. I finally killed it... by watering it! It'll surely be fine for a couple of weeks. Another plant that does well with little attention is a Peace Lily.

Too late now, but you could have started a conversation about the benefits of "regifting". How it can save money... how, most of the time, people purchase gifts for others that they like themselves... then have somebody else (can't be too obvious ;)) mention, "Oh, isn't that the bag DisneyandRedSox bought you?" :teeth:
