Wow you are doing so great! I did my first 5k yesterday. I did better than I thought - which made me soooo happy! Today is my "rest" day, but i so want to go run! It's amazing that I look forward to it the way that I do.

You are really doing a great job!

Jess - I am running the Princess 5k in February. My first race ever!

You are doing awesome! You are inspiring me to get up and run this am. I worked nights last night - LOL.

I also have started running in September and have lost 15 pounds!!! First weight I've really lost since my kids (last one 10yrs ago)LOL. I don't follow a training program but I alternate btwn weight lifting (circuit) and 30 min eliptical and the next time run outside - soon I won't be able to run outside which is really my fave. Doesn't it feel awesome!

Keep inspiring us!

Judith

Way to go Jess!:cheer2:
You'll love participating in a Disney race, they are so motivational and Disney does a great job! I've done 2 fulls and many halfs and plan on doing the Princess in 2012 and the DL half the same year to get the Coast to Coast medal. :thumbsup2
Keep walking/running and I'm sure you'll be more than ready. Congrat's on the lifestyle change!:woohoo::yay:

Judith,

First off--congrats! you are doing great so far. Have you looked at any novice training programs for 5K? It might be helpful--make sure you don't ramp up your running too fast and risk injury.

Also--don't give up on running outside in the winter. With the right gear, it is still something to look forward to. I can make it through Michigan winters with just tights and a long sleeve shirt (headband too) And MI winters are much the same as Boston (I'm from the area)

Anyway, good luck! You will have a blast in February. Princess is still on my list of Disney races to run.

Thanks a lot. Good advice about the novice training programs and risking injury. Any ones that you recommend?

Are you running the Boston Marathon - I saw April 18, 2011? It runs right by my house.

What do you do about shoes/slipping in the winter? I was just planning on running at the gym - guess I'm a real novice huh? LOL. Plus I have a reservoir where I really enjoy my run.

Thanks for the encouragement - need it.
Judith

Congrats on the dedication OP!

I just wanted to reply that I'll be running my first half at the Princess in 2011. I started training 2 1/2 months ago and could barely run 2 minutes straight. My mile pace was right around 17 minutes/mile (so similar to where you are now...) After 2 1/2 months I'm now running at right under 12 minute miles and can run 4 miles straight at that pace :) It will DEFINITELY come, just build up slowly! You're doing AWESOME!

hey guys! thank you SO much for all your encouragement! i need it now more than ever...i haven't posted in a while because i hurt my dang leg! well long story short, i was born with a dislocated hip (my left) they didn't catch it til i was 9 months old! since it was caught so late, i've had 4 surgeries and tons of physical therapy. it's just recently that i've been able to do more and have had less problems. WELL...this last thursday i was fitted for running shoes and had insoles molded to my feet. i ran on friday and even right after i felt pain in my normal aggravated area, but then shooting down to the side of my knee. i took it easy on saturday and sunday was suppose to be my 5 mile. it hurt to even walk a lot, so my trainer said to rest it. i was so upset i wouldn't be doing my run and felt like i was having a major set back. it's MUCH better and i even jogged a tiny bit on monday...trainer wants me to see my ortho before we start full blown training again, so right now i'm doing the recum. bike and walking. UGH! just frustrating but i know this is being smart, and not further aggravating anything. i wondered if it was my new shoes...am i corrected too much?! we'll see, but i WILL do the princess and i am not going to quit!!

Judith The Couch to 5k program is well regarded. (Coolrunning.com has it). I have used the plans out of the book "Run Less, Run Faster".

I am running Boston in April. Excited because DD's sorority house is on Comm Ave, so I'll have some cheering support.

I don't have any good suggestions for shoes slipping--I haven't used anything. Just try to pick streets that are reasonably clear. SOme people use YakTrax, though.

I like the gym for shorter runs--I do my speed work there.

Hope your training continues well.
