Hi

I don't know what to do about our vacation plans. We're planning to go to an AI the last week of Feb. We need Feb 23-Mar1.

When the flights first came out they only went to Feb 29 so I didn't book. Now the one way flight is up to $399.

So I changed the day we leave to Fri instead of Sat and we're still waitng for the return date of Mar 1.

Problem is, every time I look at the flight it goes up another $20.

I'm afraid to book the flight one way because what if when they finally extend their dates, the return trip is really expensive? Then we're stuck.

What would you do?

Thanks

I just booked a one-way this week for the return part of our flight on JB from FLL to BOS, waiting for the price to drop some more on the BOS-FLL leg (I know I can book know and get a credit later but we won't be flying JB again in the next year or so). I figure if all else fails I'll do a one-way with AirTran for the leg down so you don't necessarily need to fly the same airline down and back.

We are flying similar dates as you from BOS. I did book the flight down at $114.00 one way back in July. It isn't too bad of a fare although I would prefer $59 each way! :)

I am patiently waiting for the return leg (also 3/1) and hoping for the best. There are 14 of us going together and we are stuck with our dates so I don't have any wiggle room.

Hopefully we will find decent fares. Each $10 difference multiplied times 14 makes a big savings for us! Good Luck! I am hoping for the best!

Unless I can get a really cheap fare, I only book one leg at a time. Their best fares *usually* come out within 90 days of travel. You don't have to fly the same airline both ways, as another poster stated above. Even if you book an expensive flight, if they come down JetBlue is pretty good with giving you a credit.

You're not flying during President's Week, so you *should* be able to find a decent flight. Good luck with your search! Have to signed up for JetBlue's fare watch?

I have travelled with JET BLUE dozens of times and I have never seen their fares come down...ever. That is likely because we travel during peak times. If you do travel during holidays, spring break, school vacations, the 90 day thing will definitely not work. Book fares as soon as they are availble with Jet Blue.

This is how it works according to a Jet Blue attendant who explained the process to me.
The fares increase based on the amount of seats currently sold. They start at a certain price and continue to go up. When 25 % of the flight is sold, the fare increases. When 30 % of the flight is sold, it increases again and so on until the fares hit around 399.00 each way from NY to Orlando. Since your fare is going up you can expect it to continue to go higher and higher. Your flight will not get any cheaper. If you do not lock in those rates, you will wind up paying more for the same flight later. I'd book it and watch the site and book the next leg the day they come out.

Good Luck !

You could also price the return leg on another airline through Kayak or Sidestep. It may pay for you to fly one airline one way and another the other way. There is no penalty for doing this.

We have done this several times since it worked out to be much cheaper that way.

Good luck
Heather

It is rare my Jet Blue fare has NOT decreased. This is why I'm glad JetBlue is one of the few airlines that will issue a credit note, when their air fare drops (ie if you call them when you note the air fare has dropped, they will issue a credit note to make the effective price, the new lower air fare).

Jet Blue freqeuently offers seat sales, in which they drop fares. I've seen fares go from $299 a seat, and drop to $89.

Like I said, this is likely due to the fact we travel during peak times. We also fly out of one of the busiest airports in the country. Though even when traveling during non-peak times, I've yet to see a fare reduced, or travel on an aircraft that was not booked to capacity.

If Jet Blue will lower fares, this is great news for the OP!

Thanks for your replies. I bit the bullet and bought RT tickets for Fri to Fri instead of Sat. I just couldn't wait any longer!

Right after I bought them the prices went up another $60 each!

I"ll keep checking to see if they go down in price but I'm happy with the fare I got.
Thanks again

Now that I am officially booked on Jetblue, I have some more specific questions.

1. Does each seat have their own TV and control? Does it come with headphones that you have to buy or do you bring your own? (kids' question)

2. Do they really serve Dunkin Donut Coffee on the flight? (dad's question)

3. What type of snacks should we expect for a 4 1/2 hr flight in the AM?

4. Can you check in on line the day before? Is there a certain hour that you have to wait until (ie:24hrs prior?)?

5. Seats are assigned but do I need to keep checking that they don't change them?

Thanks all!

I've had my fares with JetBlue decrease almost every trip. I book as soon as I can and then get a credit when they come down in price. Seems I always have some kind of credit. Have a smallish one of $103 now because my flight home to Boston, from Tampa, last month went down $34 pp. It pays to keep checking the fares after you book...that way you can get a credit applied.

Also, I usually book each leg at a time. Very seldom do I book the entire trip in one fell swoop. It really made me nervous the first time I did it that way, but it works quite well. I even fly down and back on two different carriers now....whoever gives me the best rates. For instance...I'm flying JB to MCO in Dec but flying home using my Delta skymiles...no problem.

1) Yes. Each seat has their own tv and control. You can bring your own, or they sell headsets for $2 (I believe they've done away with, or will be shortly doing away with, the free sets).

2) Yes, it's really Dunkin Donuts.

3) They provide a choice of cookies, chips, peanuts, etc.

4) You can check in no sooner than 24 hours in advance of your flight.

5) They will not change your seats.

Have a great trip!
