Our schedule for our May 4-9 vacation is so far:
Day 1: MK for afternoon and Chef Mickey's for dinner
Day 2: MK again. CS lunch and not sure about dinner yet. Probably Liberty Tavern
Day 3: Epcot-Garden Grill for dinner
Day 4: Hollywood Studios-Sci-Fi for dinner
Day 5: AK
I have no idea where to eat on our AK day. We can't do Rainforest because it's not part of the DDP. I wanted to do Yak and Yeti, but my ds #1 has multiple food allergies, including peanuts and tree nuts, and I've read that many of the AK and african restaurants are not good for nut allergic people. I thought we could leave AK and eat at Downtown. It just seems like the restaurants there aren't as fun. We could just go back to our hotel (ASMuFS) and swim and eat at the food court, but I wanted a nice TS meal. Ohana sounds like a lot of fun, but it's a lot of running around to go from AK to Poly, then back to AS. Thoughts?

If you are planning a whole day at AK then I would do just lunch there. Restaurantasaurus is good, Pizzafari is another. Then would either leave and go to a resort to have dinner or DTD.

Depending on what you want to acomplish at AK if you get there early, close to rope drop, you could be done and ready to leave by 3 or 4. That would give you time to get anywhere on WDW property...even Ohana. (as it is at opposite ends of the property).

My favorite place to eat is the FlameTree BBQ. It's a counter service but it's very yummy! I like the seating there as well. Most people don't know that behind the FTBBQ there is seating by the water and in the trees!! When you are looking at the FTBBQ, head towards the left hand side, go down that path beside it and enjoy a nice quiet, away from the crowds meal.

We always eat at Flame Tree, which is only CS. We did eat at restaurantasaurus once, it was basically mc'ds.

I would eat at your hotel for breakfast, then go to the park, then eat dinner. AK closes fairly early, so you could go back to your room for a break, then go out to eat.

Just an idea, would be to switch your 2nd MK day and AK days. Unless your doing it on purpose that way, your cutting your last WDW day down drastically. AK is always a good day of rest for us, because we are usually done by 3 or 4. It also gives the kiddos a "night off" in the middle of the trip for rest and recharge. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the advice! We were planning on eating in park for lunch, I'm just stumped for dinner. Switching our second MK day is an option, however I tried to pick our park days based on the extra magic hours. We are early birds, so the extra hour in the morning could be good for us.

For our AK day we are planning on having a later breakfast at Boma's before heading over to the park. For lunch we will be eating at Flame Tree BBQ, then for dinner we are going to be going to Yachtsman's Steakhouse (staying at BCV). AK doesn't really do it for us as far TS restaurants go, Tusker House character breakfast is fine, but we wanted to try out something different this time around. When we were there in September we did do Donald's Breakfast at Tusker House then Restaurantsaurus for lunch, then we had ADRs for Boma's for dinner.

Your boys might like T-rex at Downtown.. They have a wide enough menu to accommodate your son's food allergies...

Would love to do T-Rex, but it's not included in the DTP. I really want to do Ohana, but concerned about all of the running around. Plus, I'm not sure when we will do DTP. I'm really considering the pp's advice to switch my AK and second MK day, but that still doesn't solve my AK dinner dilemma. I think we will try FTBBQ for lunch for our CS meal for sure!

You could try to get an early ADR for Tusker house character breakfast, thats what we did. We'll be done eating at about the time park opens.
Or, you could get dinner at Boma.

Duh! I forgot! I think are lots of places you could go, and I wouldn't be worried about running around too much. I say, go to your room for a bit after AK, rest and go back out for dinner at a place that will meet your needs and that you'll all enjoy. Doing this will offer you SO MANY places for your family to go..

Hmmm-that's an idea. We can use our TS meal for that and our CS for lunch. Maybe I can convince dh to pay out of pocket to take the boys to T-Rex! :rolleyes1

My guess is that Donald's Breakfast Safari at Tusker House would cost less to pay for OOP then T-Rex. I would agree with a PP about going to AKL and trying Boma. There is a pretty nice variety of foods that picky and adventurous eaters alike will enjoy. Also, AKL is a fantastic resort to check out. There are activities and things to and a lot to see.

Make sure on all your ADR's you mention the food allergies. My girlfriend has a pretty bad peanut and treenut allergy. The ADR's where I noted it, a chef would come out and talk to her about her different options.

So the next question is, what time should I make ADR's for breakfast at Tusker House? Early before AK opens, or later so it can be closer to lunch time?

Since many people feel AK is the one park you can really do in a day if you arrive at opening and go until like 3:30 or so...we're get a pre-park opening breakfast that we're paying for OOP and then using a DDP credit for dinner at Boma at AKL. Sure- we're going back to the hotel to rest/nap and change before this, and we have to get from our hotel to AKL, but dinner at AKL IMO keeps in the theme of the AK park better vs. any of the TS options at AK.

Thanks everyone! I made ADR's at Tusker House for 8:30 am. We plan on doing FTBBQ for lunch, and probably DTD for dinner. We will just do Earl of Sandwich or another quick and inexpensive place at DTD. We can't leave WDW without my boys paying a visit to the Lego store!

just an FYI Yak And Yeti is STELLAR for food allergy requests, best meal of our trip, had 2 allergic people with us, with wheat, peanut and mushroom allergies... totally recommend it!
