Need Diaper Rash Help

:-(
I'd go with corn starch. I think most diaper creams have zinc in them and vaseline and other barriers won't help to heal anything.
When DS was in the hospital with pnuemonia he got a horrid diaper rash from being sick and all the antibiotics- one of the nurses gave me this stuff called sensicare (I think... it came in a blue tube) that was awesome, but I think that's full of zinc, too.
Good luck

There is a barrier cream called TRIPLE PASTE that is simply amazing.

www.triplepaste.com

Our first pediatrician recommended it - it can cure ANYTHING. I swear. We have used it thru two babies and now will for our third.

Recently, I have seen it at Target in the baby aisle. Previous kids we had to ask the pharmacist for it at Walgreens or Walmart; Often we would order online.

It is pricey - but worth every single penny. We use it for diapers, chaffing, even when the kids have colds we put it on their noses!!! It is a miracle.

This is the best stuff!!!!

aquaphor, and I have given oral motrin when he is crying that it hurts. That is an antinflamitory and I think it helps. I also had good luck with aveno baths, and balmex. Good luck!

When my first son was born he got horrible diaper rash! Here are 2 tips that both the hospital and our pediatrician told us:

1. if it is a yeasty rash you can use lotrimin on it under #2

2. mix aquiphor and maalox- equal parts of each. Sounds nuts, I know, but it is AMAZING!!! oftentimes your pharmacist will be familiar with it and will even mix it for you!

Good luck!!!

:thumbsup2 Someone mentioned "Butt Cream" earlier. My sister is a Pharmacist and when my little ones had bad diaper rashes she told me about "Butt Cream". What it is, is a mixture of 50% Aquaphor and 50% Zinc Oxide. It worked wonderful!!! It coats well and protects, but since your little guy is not tolerating Zinc Oxide well I am guessing this isn't the method for you! Good luck, hope he gets to feeling better real soon! :goodvibes

I would think that the vaseline wouldn't allow air to get to the rash to help dry it out. Have you called your pedi to ask what he/she suggests? They must be aware of your son's reaction to zinc and could suggest something that doesn't contain it but still works well. Good luck!

When my DS was little and he would get Acidly Dirreaha
my Pediatrician suggested using
a 1 to 1 mixter of Aquaror and Malox (or any liquid stomach acid neutralizer)
just mix these two together and apply to a clean skin and it works
wonders. He also suggested to leave off diaper to get fresh air.
I hope this works-It is the only thing that worked for us-that mixter is amazing!

Beaudrux's Butt Paste. My monther in law also uses it for hand cream when she comes to visit. We have no use for it now.

My pediatrician suggested a mix for my DD7 when she was an infant.

1/2 a tube of Desitin (or any other cream of that sort)
1/2 tude of A & D ointment (same or similar size as the cream)
4 T of Maalox
and a small tube of triple antibiotic ointment

It works, so well that my sis used this for all 6 of hers (ranging in age from 7 years to 4 weeks), I used it for my DD5 and my brother uses it for his DD2. Everyone that I have suggested this to has used it and says it works.

Hope you find something that works!

I didn't read the other post so I am sorry if this is a repeat. I agree w/ the A&D ointment....but my son 14 mo had it REALLY BAD one time and it wouldn't go away....from teething and a stomach bug.........my doctor suggest triple paste. it's a more expensive than the average cream but it worked GREAT! I got mine at target.

Also have a shampooer, spot bot, can of resolve around and let it air dry LOL

Also instead of using premoistened wipes use tissue....the wetness doesn't help the diaper rash.....I know it doesn't seem right cause you figure dry would hurt more but in the long run it works.

Hope this helps

I haven't read through all the posts, but has anyone mentioned that his rash could be due to yeast? If it is a yeast rash, then regular diaper rash ointment, vaseline, aquaphor etc. will not clear it up. You need to get a prescription that the pharmacist mixes together.

I had to do this for each of my kids. It cleared it up fast.

The doctor can tell just by looking at the rash if it is due to yeast. Very red and blistered.

Good luck!

We have never done a prescription to rid yeast - we work with our diet and herbs. :)

Try a warm bath with a little white vinegar in the water. Let him soak (play) for a while and his bottom air dry. He might smell like salad dressing for a bit, but this always worked wonders for my guys when they were that age. It was recommended to me by an elderly pediatrician. Hope it works for you:)

Put a thin layer of Butt Cream on the bottom and then aquaphor. When you wipe, try not to wipe off the butt cream so it acts like a barrier. Only wipe off where the stool is. Reapply a small layer of butt cream again and a thicker layer of aquaphor with each diaper change. Also do not use baby wipes as they will bother a sore bottom. We do this at the hospital with neonates and it works. Good luck.

My daughter was in the hospital with the rotovirus and of course, got a terrible diaper rash. She then was exposed to staph, so needless to say her diaper area was awful, bloody mess for 3 months, untill the dermatologist told me to get triple paste. I had to order it from my local store (pre-internet days!). It came in a pretty good size tub for around 25$, but it worked like a charm and lasted FOREVER. I never used anything else on my girls and it really, really worked. Good luck, there is nothing worse than a screaming baby just becaused the pee'd!:wave2:
