I bought the movie Planes for our flight to WDW but I haven't watched it. I just want to be sure there is nothing that would be inappropriate for my kids to watch while we are flying in an airplane (like plane crashes, or memories of plane crashes). It's probably a silly question but I don't want to freak them out during a ten hour flight! :scared1:

Ooops well I said it had been a long time since I saw it. I skipped over it and he rescued a fellow plane in a near crash, has a near crash and then crashes into the ocean.

"Dusty gets distracted from flying due to his thoughts about Skipper and ends up crashing into the ocean but is eventually rescued. He is flown to Mexico to his friends but he is severely damaged and may never fly again. Skipper confesses to Dusty that he did indeed fly only one mission in the Pacific theatre where his entire squad of trainees was killed in an attack on the Japanese Navy. Skipper was the only survivor, but torn by his guilt, he never trained another plane or flew again. Demoralized and heartbroken, Dusty begins to consider dropping out of the race, but is encouraged by his friends, Bulldog, Ishani, and many of his newfound fans to continue and they all donate parts to have Dusty repaired."

In the end it is a very heartwarming story but I guess you know your kids and whether they can handle that while flying

I use Common Sense Media all the time to help me decide what is appropriate for my DD yo watch. They might be a good sight to check out.

I'm a little confused. If you own the dvd, why don't you just watch it when your kids aren't around and decide if it is appropriate for them?

I go to the kids in mind movie review website. It tells you ratings for all the violence, profanity, etc for every movie then it lists in details each scene. Here is the link to planes: http://www.kids-in-mind.com/p/planes.htm

My son who is 3 loves the movie. There are 2 scenes that could be scary depending on your child. When Dusty crashes into the sea and when skipper is remembering his war battle scene which has planes being shot and crashing.

You know your kid best so it might be better just to watch it yourself first then decide. Those disney movies....... Always have the sad parts!

There are a few near crash scenes but I think you should consider watching it. My kids would have no issue watching it on a plane but if your kids are nervous then those scenes might be an issue.

I think you should watch it and make that decision. Dusty does crash into the ocean and almost drowns but is rescued. The thing with planes characters compared to an actual plane is they are depicted as people. So its not the same as watching a movie where a plane full of people crashes. My kids wouldnt be scared but they are your kids and you know them best.

I was planning to, but ran out of time. My kids are older so I'm not really concerned about any other content other than crash scenes. Seeing as I'm short on time I was hoping it was a simple no.

We just watched it on Saturday and are getting on a plane tomorrow for WDW. My kids (6 and 9) had no problem with it and I don't even think they will connect the cartoon with our actual flight.

I agree. I don't think about real plane crashes when I see it. These planes are living beings, not passenger conveyance.

There's a climactic scene where dusty kind of crashes but the events surrounding the crash are not "realistic" to flying normally...

That being said if your kids watched "Cars" while you were driving and got freaked out avoid the movie if not you're all set...
