I am making cupcakes for a Fall Festival at church. One of the little girls is allergic to milk, eggs, and nuts.

Does anybody have a recipe that is safe for her?

Update________

I decided to just stick with my normal cupcakes in case of cross contamination.

I was planning on bleaching everything then washing everything before making the cupcakes. That would be a lot of work. I am now worried that would not be good enough.

I just wanted sorry that the little girls always cries at these functions, because she wants to eat the same stuff the other children are eating.

My nephew has these allergies. Not only is it a PITA to make cake, there is no way my sister would let him eat a homemade treat from someone who she didn't know really well, even if she was told it was safe. She has to worry about cross contamination. I'm sure the child's mom will bring something from home.

I would Google "vegan cupcakes" and then choose a nut-free option. Keep in mind that a serious nut allergy requires that you choose only ingredients that are not processed around nuts and that your kitchen and all equipment be thoroughly cleaned to avoid cross comtamination.

If at all possible, talk to the parents. They have probably experimented and found the best recipes. My girls have multiple allergies and Celiac. I've tried many a recipe on-line that sounded great, but...well...wasn't. I'd hate for you to waste the time and effort for a flop.

Also...as someone else mentioned, make sure her parents are comfortable with her eating a homemade snack. Unless I know the person VERY well and know that they understand what gluten-free means, it is not worth the reaction my girls could have.

I agree to talk to the parents. No way would most parents let a child with these allergies eat a homemade goodie from most people. Most likely they will plan to bring their own treat.

It is however so VERY kind of you to try to include this child. As an allergy mom.... I says thanks!

DD had a classmate last year with the same allergies. When I went to make birthday cupcakes, I asked the girls' mom if she had a recipe I could use, and she was happy to pass along one for vegan chocolate cupcakes that she liked. I don't have it any more, but you should be able to Google it.

I also made sure to ask for recommendations on brands for ingredients, so I got things that were safe for the nut allergy (Nestles v. Hersheys for cocoa, for example, just in case she knew that one was more/less likely to be a problem).

She also told me that if I didn't want to bother, plain old Rice Krispie treats would be fine. If I used Earth Balance or an equivalent substitution instead of butter, the cereal and the marshmallows were fine.

I made some delicious cupcakes for my ds' birthday party and had to avoid those same ingredients (due to 2 party guests with allergies). Have to say, they were the best cupcakes I ever ate and very quick and easy. I'll go dig up the recipe I started with and then modified and post it for you.

From Fannie Farmer:

Chocolate Buttermilk Cake (original recipe) (modification)

1 2/3 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk*
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla

*use 1 cup rice milk and add 1 Tbls white vinegar; let it sit for a minute before using

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. (note: recipe says to butter and flour cake pans but I just used cupcake liners in a cupcake pan; if child is allergic to dairy and not just milk you want to avoid any butter) Mix the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla, beating until smooth.Spread in the pans and bake, about 20-25 minutes (watch closely, cupcakes may be done sooner). Test to see if a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes in the pan before turning out onto a rack. Frost when cool.

For the frosting, my allergy-mom friend said it was okay to use storebought frosting, just read the label. She said the cheaper stuff was usually made with shortening (instead of butter, which is dairy). I found one on the shelf at the grocery store and used it, can't remember which brand though. Just check the labels.

Good luck! Really, they are delicious!!!!

Another allergy mom - I agree!

I would also talk with the parents.

Also, I know people with severe allergies that even if you make the allergy free recipe they could have problems with what the mix was prepared in and with (cross contamination with bowls/baking pans/utensils).

DGD was allergic to dairy and eggs. I used to make cupcakes with a dunkin hines chocolate cake mix, 1 can of pumpkin and 1/2 cup water. Bake about 18 minutes, IRRC. Kady loved these cupcakes and the kids at school did as well. I used to share the ingredients list from the cake mix along with whatever ingredients I used to bake the cupcakes with parents. Kady still requests these cupcakes, she brought them into school for her birthday celebration on Friday :goodvibes They are fudgy and you do not taste the pumpkin.

I just wanted to add a thank you for considering the little one with allergies. SO many times Kady was not included because she could not eat the treat that was brought into school or to a birthday party. She understood but recently said that she sometimes felt bad that she was left out or had to eat something very different than the group.

To the best of my knowledge, Betty Crocker is the only mix that is not manufactured in a plant that also has peanuts. I don't think kids with peanut allergies would be able to eat these.

My dd is gluten free, and has GF treats kept in the classroom, so that she has something to eat when kids bring in birthday treats.

It has been a long time since I needed to read labels. I just checked and some of my mixes state that they are processed in plants that also process tree nuts, some do not. I remember that my DD told me that I needed to read every box because not all mixes were the same.

I never made anything before I read the entire label because my memory is not good enough to chance a child's reaction to. One of DD's friends had a multitude of allergies and the first party she attended at our house the poor Mom asked to stay. I was happy to have her because even though I had gone over everything with her before the party I felt better that she double checked. After that she and my DD took turns at school functions because there were times when the room moms mixed up the food that DD or this Mom had made for the children, labeled with their names and then wrapped separately.

Lol - me too, so that's why I only buy Betty Crocker mix now, because I know it's peanut free.

V?Call the mom . She will be best able to help you so all the kids are included. Kady always had her own alternative treat but it was nice to be able to have the same food as the other children

Don't give up on that little girl if you can. My youngest has lots of food allergies, my first experience with it all, and it meant so much to me when a friend made something special that was safe for him to eat.

Definitely talk to the mom. The cupcake recipe I posted is really easy and very good. You don't need to go crazy bleaching things, just run the bowl and utensils through the dishwasher first if you're concernedl about cross contamination. See what the mom says. Whatevery you decide, your heart is in the right place, and thank you for taking the time to even to consider the little girl during your dc's birthday celebration.

Please still call the mom. Let her know you will have say, chocolate cup cakes with pink frosting or whatever. That way she can be sure she has something equally special for her little one.
