Please help!
I don't think I have a creative bone in my body.
My daughter cheers for an 11 year old football team which is a community organization.
They have homecoming in one week and we need to provide some type of decoration for the football field (something to go on the fences) and give the boys each a little token (something equivalent to the cost of a small bag of candy).
One mom from last year said that they cut out football shirts shapes from posterboard, one for each player, put their jersey # on it, and the girls all signed their names on it. This ended up being the decoration for the field as well as the gift to each player.
I was hoping to think of something new this year but can't come up with anything. The decorations have to be hangable on the fence. They cannot be staked into the ground.
I'm also having trouble thinking of a gift for each player other than a bag of candy.
If anyone has some great creative ideas, please do share them. We need to keep the cost down. The organization doesn't pay for the decorations, the parents all chip in to split the cost.

I'm not very creative either but how about doing a pennant with their name and number? It would be similar to the t-shirt thing but different. Most kids like candy, I would just give them that. See if you can find some football related candy or some football trading cards maybe?

gofgal has a good idea. Mine still goes off of that idea. Is there a mascot? Are they the "Tigers", or something like that? You could do the shape of a Tiger in a jersey with each players # and last name. And candy seems to never go wrong with the kids. Check-out the link topper gave you for oriental trading, you should find alot of ideas there.

Good luck, and let us know what you all end up doing!

If there is a newspaper printing plant close by, go and ask if you can have a couple of end rolls of newsprint. These are free. Make huge banners with magic markers - write catch-phrases, boys names and numbers, etc.

Make several to hang on the fence with masking or duct tape. Make another one for the team to run through at the beginning of the game when they come onto the field.

If you can't get the newsprint - use poster board - it's usually around 29¢ a sheet at the dollar store.

Make small football shapes from brown construction paper and either write the individual names and #'s on them, or the team name. Have the cheerleaders pin them on their uniforms. Make extras for the parents and the fans.

Tie balloons to sections of the fence when it will not obstruct viewing the game. Use team colors, and if possible, find some with football designs.

I second www.orientaltrading.com for good inexpensive gift items.

My DD was both a cheerleader and on the dance line at HS (she's now in college). The players loved getting homemade cookies from the girls, these were decorated and shaped in a football theme and the girls personalized them with the players names.

At our HS they also took strofoam cups and placed them in the wire holes in the fence and spelled out the team name.

Thank you all so much! I just received the Oriental Trading catalog also. I'll take a look at it.
