Need Clarification on 3rd FP+

If I book our 3rd FP+ for all 3 in my party on the same ride and only 2 of us use it, once the time frame for that FP+ expires, are all 3 considered used so that we can all get our 4th then? (I hope that made sense?!)

Yes, once the one hour window expires. You can also just cancel the 3rd FP for those not riding.

I decided to keep my FP+ for SM, even though I probably won't ride. I might cancel it at the park though. I thought if the ride breaks down, then DH and DS will get a replacement FP+. If I don't have one, then I won't get the replacement and won't be able to ride the alternative ride with them.

If you don't want to ride the 3'rd fastpass and no one else in your party wants it then you could enter the ride and use the chicken exit.
