After the notice we got yesterday regarding the ability to borrow only 50% of our points I am not sure where I stand for next year. I had planned on borrowing from 2022 and upgrade to a 1 bedroom from our usual studio. That is not going to happen. Just want to make sure I am thinking straight on my points. I have 13 from 2020, 150 in 2021. I am booking a studio for April /May 2012 using 163 points. I am able to use all my 2021 points when I book at the 11 month mark correct ? and borrow 50%of 2022 if I want to extend my stay . My use year is March. I know this seems simple but I am always in borrowing mode and want to make sure I have a handle what I need and can do going forward.

With a March use year, an April 2021 trip falls in your 2021 use year. You can use the 13 from 2020 if they were banked, the 150 2021 points and you can borrow up to 75 from 2022 (I've assumed you have 150 points).

Thank you ...the more i started thinking about this I starting doubting myself. Now hoping I can get my usual standard view studio.... that may be tricky!!

Just note that it appears uncllear that for a late April to early May 2021 trip you will be limited to borrowing only 50% of your 2022 points. The April 24, 2020 notice on the DVC website, along with the link in the notice to further information, says the new borrowing 50% rule is effective April 24, 2020, and applies for a year. Unclear if that means limited to trips taken before 4/24/21 or, instead, means it applies to doing the act of borrowing at the time of making a reservation during that year, and thus could apply to your trip that occurs after April 24, 2021.

I took it that all reservations being booked now until it’s reversed will be Subject to the rule.

I will be checking in April 25,2021 but also took the rule to mean making a reservation now or for the foreseeable future. I appreciate everyone's input.

I agree, otherwise for home priority bookings the rules is gone next month. If that were the case someone could make such a reservation next month, borrowing the points, and then cancel. If they aren't unborrowing the points they couldn't also prevent you from using them whenever you want.

Can you use borrowed points at the 11 month mark?

Yes. When you make your reservation it will ask you to borrow when you don’t have enough.

Just be aware that right now, the system will let you borrow more than 50%, but they will cancel reservation if you do.

I have never booked online but given that it is going to be tough enough getting rooms, I want the extra hour at 8am to book. Is it a fairly straight forward process? I know you can only book 7 nights at a time. Do you go back day by day to add additional days? I have never had a problem booking our vacation at 11 months out. I suspect things will be different though. Should I consider walking my reservation? I always have felt , even though it is technically legal... not OK with it, nor do I have enough points usually to do it. One thing I have noticed on social media is that many DVC'ers seem to travel at this same time frame, right after all the school vacations and spring breaks. Also can you add any room requests?

It's pretty straight forward but as Sandisw said, just be sure that if you're borrowing point you only borrower the allowable 50% or your reservation will be cancelled.

If you need more days I would do it day by day just to be sure you get what you need.

As far as walking a reservation that is up to you. If you don't think it's the right thing to do then don't but it is allowed. We all have to do what we think is the right thing to do for ourselves as long as we aren't breaking the rules or hurting anyone else. JM$.02 ;)

It depends which resort and type of room you're booking as to whether or not walking will be beneficial. Maybe just watch the room that you'd be booking in advance to see if availabilty is going quick at the 11 month mark.

We always book a standard studio at BWV for 10 or more nights. I know this is a very in demand room as I witnessed when I tried to book several a few years ago during Food and Wine for a large family trip. They were gone at 9am on my first day at 11 months. Late April/early May won't be like that but with the loss of so many rooms during closure it might be similar. I will start checking availability...good suggestion.
