have a friend who will be in Chicago for 3 days next month. They are looking for a hotel close to popular attractions that is not absolutely outrageous. I've never been to Chicago other than to fly through  so, I have no idea what to suggest. I know there are people here local to chicago and lots of travelers. I would imagine they will want to see the art museum and some more 'touristy' stuff. They are active people who are willing to get out and walk. They also like vintage anything.

Any suggestions? They are flying into Midway but want to stay where the action is. Is that possible to do for under $250 a night? What parts of town should I point them toward? They will not have a car while they are there.

Thanks!

If they like vintage & funky, they may like the Allegro. It's a Kimpton Hotel, but not really high end. We stayed there twice and loved it both times. It's close to everything, right near the theatres and lots of restaurants. It's got a very cool, fun decor. Best of all - Aveda bathroom products!

Thanks Mcnuss. It wasn't available for their dates :( This was kinda last minute so I'm hoping they'll be able to find something!

Anyone else out there?????

Palmer House or the Chicago hilton are good bets- close to the museums and in fairly safe neighborhoods. Check online and with AAA for specials. We stay at either one when we go up for the weekend.

Try www.877chicago.com or www.winterdelights.com this web site gives offers of off times discounts. :sunny: Seems like the hotels are in the major areas. There are maps on the site and good tourist info too.

Don't worry about transport in the city. Walking is pretty easy & the farther places taxis are the way to go. :thumbsup2 They are all over chicago.

Our personal fav. hotels: chicago marriott downtown. (michigan ave). Sheraton or embassy suite near navy pier. Interesting hotels Hotel Monaco looked really neat with samantha brown on "great hotels" but we haven't stayed there yet.

Hope they enjoy our windy city. :teeth: mky princess:

Are then open to trying to get a room on Priceline? When my boss has to work late (and doesn't want to make the commute home), I book him a room on Priceline. He's stayed at the Hyatt on Wacker Drive for about $45/night + taxes and fees. He's also gotten the Palmer House for about $68/night. I've also noticed that the W Hotel seems to be coming up a lot too.

If they want to be in the middle of the action, being downtown is definitely the way to go. Everything is a short walk or cab ride away.

These may help some..............

I live in chicago had was going to stay downtown for a weekend and found the cheapest was the congress hotel. I know it is old and isn't as high class as other hotels, but is right across the street from grant park. I have not been there personally though.

My daughter stayed at the Congress with her orchestra when they had an early performance downtown. It is not a nice hotel. Avoid it.

I have stayed at the Allegro and loved it. Small, SMALL rooms but well done and a great location in the Loop.
