I am looking for a bag to fit my camera in as well as other things we'll need at the park: hand sanitizer, autograph books, medicine, etc. I do not plan to take any add'l camera lenses. I would prefer a bag that can go across my body shoulder to opposite hip. Any suggestions?

Check ebags. I just bought a sling camera bag by lowerpro. They also have backpacks that would fit other things.

I haven't gotten it yet (comes today) but it looks like it will fit my camera, camcorder, cell phone, a poncho, credit cards and some other small things. The backpacks look like they'll hold a lot more.

Honestly, I find that when I put my DSLR in a bag I don't take it out :rotfl2:

I have used my bagallini in the parks on several trips (the one that goes across) and love it. They come in every color and are easy to access the many compartments even when wearing it. I carried my DSLR around my neck. If I needed to secure it better for a ride, I put it across my body or stuck it in the bag without a specific case.

Then again, I have a lens filter that I change when it gets scratched and I prefer to have my camera available when the quick shot presents itself. I would rather take thousands of pictures and have to replace the camera body (it's a Pentax) than never use the camera because it's always protected.

We have a Nikon D40 with its original large case type bag as well as a smaller pouch bag. The pouch bag fits great across the body and allows for easy in and out access, but it really does not accommodate the camera with the larger zoom lens. We are first timers and taking a 3.5 year old, so hoping for good character interaction shots, etc.
Which lens would you recommend if we don't want to carry both. Also baggallini or other type of bag what all do you take for the camera each day (lenses, flash, etc?0

Thanks for any insight

We have this Lowepro CompuDaypack. It has a rear compartment that can hold a laptop, a lower compartment that accommodates a SLR with lens attached plus 2-3 additional lenses, and a front compartment for anything else. There's also a small pocket on the front that can hold an MP3 player.

I have the Kata DR465. It is a backpack with the camera section on the bottom. I carry my Nikon D80 with 2 additional lenses and a flash and still have room in the bottom for other things. The top portion I put all the things I need to take to the parks with me -ponchos, water bottle, snacks.
hope this helps.

I'm taking a Lowepro Fastpack 250 with me. It carries my camera (Olympus E-510) Lenses and stuff easily as well as having a spot for the laptop and other essentials and works as a personal item on airlines if that is an issue. It is very easy to get the camera out when you want it and quick to put it back in when you don't.

We put our D80 in our Baggallini messenger and it was fine/great. It was easy to swing the bag around to grab the camera.

We never take our whole wallet into the park--just a CC/DC, license, and our KTTW cards. That leaves plenty of room for sunscreen, autograph books, the DSLR, etc. We keep the sunscreen in a zipper bag just in case. There is a pocket on the outside for a bottle of water.

I also bought a neoprene case that fits my DSLR exactly (I leave one basic lens on) and this helped pad it a bit.

At bagsbuy.com *save10* will save you $10 on the bag, no shipping, no tax and you'll get a 10% discount for registering, making the bag @ $25--get another $5 back through Mr. Rebates.

I used all the codes TODAY and they worked fine.

I have the lowepro compuday pack which I use as hand luggage on the aeroplane as I take a laptop too, but I do not use this in the parks. In the parks I use my lowepro slingshot 200. I like the space for the camera and lenses, plus the space at the top of th bag for other things. I like that the camera is easily accessable from the slingshot. It looks like the fastpack 250 but without the laptop compartment.

The other difference between the Fastpack and the Slingshot is that the fastpack is a backpack with two straps while the slingshot is a sling bag with one strap both can be accessed the same way with the fastpack you just drop the right shoulder strap and bring it around. If you can go to a camera store and try them and see which you like.
