I asked the older kids the other night whether they plan on getting autographs during our next trip. DSD said yes, as I pretty much expected, but DSS also said yes. He will be 14 in the fall and I thought he would be way too cool for characters this trip. I'm pretty excited that he's still interested though because I pushed for this 'one last trip before DSS is too big'. Anyhow, now I need non traditional autograph ideas. They both already have one or two half filled autograph books laying around that never got touched once we got back to PA. I think for DSD I will get a tshirt because I know that she will wear it for at least the rest of the summer. There is no way I see DSS wearing an autographed tshirt though so I need a 'cooler' idea for him. (I guess it would be wierd to take his skateboard along for autographs huh?). I've opted against autographs for DD, they take time and she has no concept anyhow.

A blank front "trucker" baseball hat or a regular baseball hat (a white one with or without a logo on the front) if he wears them.

I was thinking hat too but you can also do pillow cases. I got white pillowcases for my kids and then we use them for extra pillowcases when we travel or when we are in a disney mood.

I also thought about a picture frame matting. You can probably get an 8x10 with a smaller opening and then you can put a family picture from your trip in it. Or cut a piece of card stock into 8x10 and then cut out a 4x6 hole in the middle. Just decide if you want it landscape or portrait for the picture. Get a good picture of main street with your family and put that in it. He can put it in his room.

this, i think, would be the best idea for him. just a small nice reminder. and if he gets "too cool" it can be put in a drawer and brought out when hes a lil older as a reminder of good times!

I wonder if he could get autographs of some of the animators on the tour...

I didn't want to do autograph books in 2008. With 3 kids I found it a pain in the but to dig for them when needed.

So I got a photo mat for a 5x7 picture but the mat is an 11x17 or an 8x10 (I forget) but there was plenty of room for the 5 characters at Chef Mickey's to sign it. I was going to take it park to park but I realized I didn't want it to bend.

We bought the kids Disney hats while there & had a few characters sign them. They still wear them.

I made the custom ones (printed on 5x8 cards, instructions were posted here on the Dis last summer) for our last trip and got a lot of GREAT feedback from the "face" characters. For this trip, I'm making Shutterfly books.

I think anything that varies from the standard Disney autograph book shakes up the experience a bit from the characters' perspective -- in a good way!

I've seen some Disers buy a large Mickey vinylmation and have the characters sign that.

When we went on the Disney cruise we gave our stuff to the guest services desk and they had them signed and returned. Has anyone ever asked at their hotel about that? I wonder if they would. Then you could get the ones you want or least the main ones and not have to hunt around for them.

Oh, and I love the shutterfly idea. I've made my own books several different ways but that is a new idea.

Last year we started a great tradition. We bought a baseball, at DTD, with Donald Duck on it and had all the characters sign in. We plan to get a different character ball this year and do it again. My son keeps it displayed in our house.

We have also done canvas bags. You can buy them blank at craft stores and use fabric markers to have the characters sign them.

We always use a white or light colored pillow case and several different colored Sharpie markers. We now have quite a collection of signed masterpieces and my DD loves having them on her bed all year long.:yay:

This will be my 4th year of using the Snapfish Classic hard cover photo album. I use pictures (of my kids with the characters) from the previous year's trip for the characters to sign - the characters love it! I also add 2 blank pages at the end of the book for characters that we don't have pictures of. When we get their signatures, we always tell them that they will make next year's book. I make one for each of my kids and it is probably the best souvenier after our trip. They do cost a little more than a regular autograph book (about $30 with the added pages, usually each book has about 30 pages) but it is a keepsake that I find my kids looking through all the time and they will have something to share with their kids someday when they are older. I just finished both books for our upcoming August trip and got a good coupon for Snapfish! :thumbsup2

Carone, is that a beagle, or a fox hound in your signature picture? Beautiful dog!!

I love the idea of your shutterfly book however and I may do that from our June trip and bring it back in December instead!!:goodvibes One book for me, one for the kids.;)

I have worked on a scrapbook for quite some time that has all the characters in it. I will be having my grandsons pose with each character, placing their picture on the pages I scrapbooked. Grandma will carry a book for the characters to sign. I wanted to bring the scrapbook, but I am afraid it would get ruined.

This probably won't work for your son, but one trip I took white cotton fabric cut in triangles with fabric markers. I made a quilted wallhanging for my bff who's a bigger Disney Dork than I am.
