need an eagle scout present -- what's appropriate and in budget?

I really like the idea of the silver dollar Eagle! Very nice thought.

All of the young men that have become Eagles in my son's troop have been heading off to college so we always give at least $100. The last Eagle Scout ceremony we went to was held at a Country Club with a full meal and dancing so I still felt our gift wasn't enough.

-Most Scouts have little equiptment of their own and uses the troops equiptment, So something to further their scouting career that is usefull are great ideas. I have gifted a number of camping toilets and they get a good laugh but they are useful.
-Knives are very popular but most scouts get too meny of very low quality that are usless quickly. I normaly go with "kershaw" in the onion series (mostly leaks) there is a store here called "things rembered" (i dont know if they are a nashional chain) and they will ingrave just about anything.
- Imbroiderd backpacks (just school size, not backpacking size) are another idea. My favorite had an outline of an ealge and said "once and eagle, always and eagle."
-A blanket or quilt made from old troop/ trip t-shirts, no matter how staind they are (i know how they get)
