Need airfare advice

We have to fly down to Tampa over MLK holiday weekend in January. Leaving from Newark. Do you think there will be any airfare sales between now and Nov/Dec or should I take the best fare available now? The fares have slowly been going up but we have a few things to work out yet for the trip. I'm not sure what to do. Any help/advice is appreciated.

January, even MLK weekend, tends to be a slow time for the airlines, so unless the flights are getting full, a fare sale is not out of the question. Flights out of Newark seem a bit pricier than those across the Hudson from JFK. So if you can do JFK, you could get a much cheaper fare, and lots more options to TPA. Of course, Continental has a Newark hub, and if they have a January fare sale, you could make out pretty well.

It also seems that there are more Newark based flights headed to Orlando, so maybe flying into MCO and driving the 80 miles to Tampa might not be such a bad plan.
