After we disembark, our flight will not be taking off until 6:00pm so I was thinking about renting a car and heading over to DTD for lunch and shopping. My question is, what is the best way to rent the car. I was thinking of checking our bags right at the terminal so we would not have to lug those aroung but then I don't know what to do. How do I get to a rental place?

Any help would be appreciated.

Avis has a shuttle that goes from the port to their office at the radisson. That is who we used in December.

We used Avis last August and had no problem whatsoever. We checked out bags at the port, picked up the car and went to visit relatives.

Do you need to tell Avis that you will need a pick up or are they just there waiting for anyone who might need them. Does anyone know how Budget works?

Linda

Budget works the same way as Avis. They have vans continuously running from the port to their rental site. The porters will direct you to a while tent in the parking lot where the shuttles pick up.

Go to the Avis website and price out what vehicle you think you need.....also check out www.mousesavers.com for some discount codes to use. Make your reservation in advance, have your confirmation number with you. When you get off the ship, tell the porter you have an avis rental and they will take you right to where the shuttle picks you up and takes you to their office at the radisson. If it were me, we'd just put the luggage in the trunk and travel with it until we were ready to go to the airport, but that's my opinion.

I may be wrong, but I thought I read here that if you use Budget, you take a taxi to their location and they will reimburse the fare...

Budget has an on-airport facility in Orlando and a Cape Canaveral facility less than three miles from the cruise terminal. Budget provides complimentary shuttle service from their Cape Canaveral location to the cruise terminal. Their Cape Canaveral location is only a couple blocks beyond the Radisson.

Budget is the surprise winner of this survey. In the not-too-distant past I had stopped mentioning Budget altogether because the sample quotes I'd gotten in past surveys were much higher than those of Avis, Hertz, or National. In fact, they were ranked #4 in my last survey because their rate came in so high. This time, Budget's sample rate blew everyone else away. Budget catapults to a #1 ranking through a combination of a great sample rate quote and a convenient facility at Cape Canaveral.

Note: I had steered people away from Budget in the past due to anecdotal reports that this facility can be understaffed on cruise days. More recent anecdotal reports have indicated that the service here is perfectly adequate.

I went with Budget, the above info was taken from Dave's DCL Tribute website. Budgets prices were half of what I received from Avis.

Sober...

heading over to DTD for lunch and shopping.

Hi DBMagic. I haven't been to DTD in a while, but from what I remember it's pretty expensive. Nearby is the Crossroads Shopping Center. Several restaurants there, along with a terrific miniature golf offering with two courses!

If you stop at any of the hotels between DTD and Crossroads, politely ask the valet for a discount coupon to Crossroads. It will save you 10% off any meal at the restaurants there and my son LOVED a meal at Red Lobster - so did Dad!

what is the best way to rent the car. Sober

I disagree. Get a designated driver who is sober but I've found it helps to be slightly intoxicated while paying. ;) :p :)
