I am a horrible picture taker. I still haven't found a point and shoot that I can work with. That is what made us decided that on this trip we would hire a Disney photographer for a couple hours to take some candids and posed shots of us, espcially the kids. The candids are most important, though the posed shots in the walled off castle garden are important too.

Originally I hired him/her from 10am-12 at the MK. I was told though that isn't the best time for pics? Shadows and such? I have moved the time and we now have the photog from 2pm-4pm. Is this better? It is in October so the sun sets earlier. Any suggestions? We want this to be great. Our kids are 10 and 6. I think this is the last time we go with "kids". The next trip we will be having a preteen along.;)

the best times for photos are usually considered to be the couple hrs around sunrise and sunset. at noon the light makes things look flatter, it's better to have the light hit from the side like it does around those 2 times. sunset is probably around 5-6 then? ( here is a link to find out when it is... http://www.sunrisesunset.com/custom_srss_calendar.asp) you probably would be ok at the 2-4 cause you don't want it to be to dark either since you are more after people photo rather than "atmosphere" photos

Ok. Thanks. The woman I booked this with was concerned about a 4-6pm time because of the darkness. She said 3-5 wouldn't work because of the parade and the crowd on Main St. We need to be able to get over to the garden at some point. And she did suggest candids as the kids go down Main St which would be impossible at parade time.

As long as 2-4 isnt a terrible time I guess it will have to do.

Any suggestions on how best to get candids? Where in the world would look the best to catch the kids being spontaneous?

You say you're a terrible photographer. Have you ever considered taking a class? I took an on-line class last year before we went to Alaska and I learned a lot. I can tell the difference when I compare recent photos with ones I took a couple of years ago. Another thing is practice, practice, practice. I never go anywhere without my camera so I'm always ready to shoot.
