Ok all. Thank you so much to all those who helped me :thumbsup2 Finally made our decision after researching, questioning, looking at vacation patterns. Addressing fears. Here is what we decided: We are a golfing family (love to go to Myrtle Beach) and a Disney family. We like to take two vacations a year. We looked into HH (my DH is in love with this place  ) and we love it. We also like all of the DVC properties at WDW. So here's what we want to do: Go to HH in the summer (I noticed this is there premier season) and go to WDW during Spring Break each year (generally in April). We want the one bedroom at HH but are content with a studio at WDW. We are not resort snobs so we really don't mind where we stay at WDW. Did some research, HH is not easy to get in the summer. Now, this is where I call in the experts. What would you do and how would you break up your contracts keeping in mind resale, price, home resort (HH is actually not easy to get in the summer). CALLING IN THE PROS :teacher: BTW-- disboard rock for research. This has been such a wealth, wealth of knowledge.

If you want summer at HH, you probably need to own at least part of your points there. Just remember that maintenance fees are significantly higher there than at the WDW/DVC resorts.

I guess I would buy a HH that matches what you want for that vacation annually, and then buy a contract at one of the less expensive DVC/WDW resorts. SSR and OKW will have both lower maintenance fees and lower points needed for a stay compared to the other on-site DVC's. Look for a resale contract at one of those two that matches the number of points you would likely need for your WDW stays. Remember that spring break will be some of the higher point times of the year, so be sure you check out the current point charts for each of the resorts during that season.

When you say you like to take 2 vacations a year, do you want to go to HHI once a year and WDW once a year...or, once every 2 or 3 years. That will help you decide how many points you need with banking and borrowing.

I would suggest getting 2 separate contracts, one at HHI and one at one of the WDW resorts. You will then be able to make all your reservations at the 11 month window for your home resort.

Good Luck!

I have two suggestions.

For WDW, I would look very seriously at purchasing an SSR resale. I see SSR clearing ROFR at less than $70, which is a >30% discount from DVC Direct pricing. And...one golf course clubhouse is right on SSR property and the course winds through SSR and OKW next door.

I'd get enough points to have a one-bedroom, because long-term, you're not going to be satisfied with an SSR studio.

For the rest, I'd really look long and hard at buying a non-Disney timeshare resale. I'm not expert in that area, but I think one of the other good programs might give you much better value because of the vast number and variety of trading options. You already know you love Myrtle Beach, I'd look for something good there and also look at the trading options that offers.

In your particular case, I would also look at the feasibility of buying only non-DVC and using them to trade into DVC when you want to visit Disney.

Again, I'm not a non-DVC expert, but we have several folks here who are and I hope they'll join this thread and give you some good advice.

We want to go twice a year. One week in the summer at HH and one week at WDW at Spring Break.

I would buy a resale at OKW for the WDW vacations - largest studios. And a resale for HH - just a heads up but there aren't many one bedroom units, two bedrooms aren't very many more points and even with the three of us that is what we reserve. This is what we did.

I would definitely buy a HH contract to cover your summer visits and at OKW or SSR to cover WDW since you are not particular where you stay while at the world.

Remember, the SSR contracts go until 2054 and the OKW contracts go until 2042 (unless you get one with the extension--then it goes until 2057).

I would also try to get a February or March UY. This would put both of your travel times within the 8 month banking window.

Good luck!!!

We are in the process now of becoming DVC members. Lets hope all goes well. :woohoo:
