We really want to stay at WL next July for our 25th and now that the new rates are out we need to decide what to do. DH has given me a budget to "work some magic with". Do we stay in a standard at $275 a night or try to rent points from DVC and stay in a studio. I can see advantages to both choices. Since this is a special occasion I want to make sure everything works out as smooth as possible - how risky is it to rent points?

Thanks

Check over on the DVC boards. Especially the Rent/Trade Board since it has good information at the top of the board.

Some things to remember:

You won't be able to contact Member Services for any reason. Only the member can do that. That means you can't make any requests, request ME, add the dining plan, etc. The member will have to do it all.

The member fully controls the reservation until the moment you check in. You cannot call Member Services to verify or confirm the reservation.

Many members do not accept Paypal and may require a check to pay. They usually require full payment no later than 60 days out. You may not have any cancellation or change options available to you. If you cancel, you may be out whatever you paid the member. They may require full payment to make the reservation.

All requests are just that, requests.

There are no rollaways or cots provided.

whenever you rent from an individual vs a corporatation - there is always a great risk.

I would get a contract.

also ask that the reservation confirmation with your name on it be send before money is exchanged.

sometimes the DVC member will do this without asking. Others won't.

any more questions just ask!

Personally, I would just go ahead and make a room reservation. As an example:

$275/night * 7 nights = $1925
270 points for 7 nights at WL * $13/point = $3510
Even if you get a really cheap rate at $10 per point, you'd still be paying $2700.

It is cheaper for you to get the room, and you can use all that extra cash for more "MAGIC!"

We are only going for 5 nights so if we go Sun - Thur it would be

$275 x 5 = $1375

70 point x $13 = $910

that $465 difference the other way
