discount if we want to rent a house for three weeks or a month?

I don't want to insult any home owners. If we rent for a month won't they save money on having the house cleaner after each week? I am assuming that many people rent for a week at a time?

What do you think? If you think it is OK, how much of a discount would you expect?

I think you may find that most owners will give a discount for 3 weeks or more but maybe not a great deal because the cleaning costs may not amount to much and it will still need cleaning after you leave so maybe the coat of 1 clean can be taken into consideration. They may give 21 weeks at full cost and a reduction in the third week .

I rented for two weeks last summer and received a discount of 10% on the second week.

Go through VRBO.com to find yourself a house. Many, many have great monthly rates or will offer you a deal for stays over 2 weeks. The best part is that you can browse through the listings and if you create a profile for yourself (with name, dates, etc, etc) there's an "Inquire About" function that sends the message to the homeowners and THEY start sending you their quotes. We've done this several times now and loved seeing our mailbox fill up with with quotes to review.

Since you are dealing with the owners, they can charge whatever they want, but if you rent their property through an agency, you will be a standard, non-negotiable rate.

Everything is negotiable. If the owner thinks you are being unreasonable, they'll just say no.

:thumbsup2 exactly...we also loved having all of the choices sent to us, and in the enquiry box I would ask for "your best discounted rate for x weeks". I believe through the billions of replies from vrbo and windsor hills rent, only 1 or 2 would not offer us a discount for our 2 week stay! Good Luck!:goodvibes

I would ask what is your best rate, including tax for the months stay. If you are planning on pool heat ask about that also being factored into the price. You can then decide if it is something you can manage and the owner is setting the price. My guess is that most of them would offer a discount. Grammy

I don't think it's insulting. As a matter of fact I've often seen many rental homes that stay a discount will be applied for longer stay's. I think I'd start by checking one of the sites that allows you to do a mass inquiry at once. Then I'd write right in there, "I'm looking for availability for xxxxxx-xxxxx. I'd also like to know if there is any discount for an extended stay".
