Need 60 points to make HHI reservation for daughter and future son-in-law for their “mini-moon” after their March 2022 wedding. I have the following points available:
  • 43 points - AUG UY, Membership #1 (direct, different owners than membership #3)
  • 54 points - DEC UY, Membership #2 (resale)
  • 7 points - AUG UY, Membership #3 (resale - if loaded in next day or so)
Since there is only 1 transfer per membership per year, I have the following options (assuming reservation is made with membership #1 which has largest number of points):
  1. Borrow 17 points from 2022 UY
  2. Transfer 17 points from membership #2
  3. Transfer 7 points from membership #3 and borrow 10 points from 2022 UY
Similar options exist if booking from other memberships, but may run into borrowing glitch. Membership #2 is already slated for a May 2022 trip, so would prefer to leave options open if we decide to move to 1BR at 7 months.

Would likely be “stuck” with borrowed points if DD/SIL change their mind. I know it would be easier if same UY and same owners, but that ship has sailed… Any advice or recommendations?

HI,

It looks like you have 54 points from membership #2. only need 6 more for the reservation. Could hopefully transfer 6 points from membership #3 and you would be all set!

It sounds like you are going to be reserving with the 7-month window. In that case, you have another option if desire is to leave the 54-point contract untouched and avoid any borrowing of points. Transfer the 7-point contract‘s points to the 43-point contract and then reserve the room with those 50 points while also purchasing from DVC 10 one-time-use-points to complete the 60 point reservation.

If you are willing to use the 54-point contract but want to minimize the number of points used from it, a second option would be to transfer the 7-point contract to the the 43-point contract, use those points to reserve as many days as possible for the beginning of the trip, use the 54-point contract to reserve the rest of the days and have MS link the reservations which will avoid having to change rooms.

Also, it might be possible to do two transfers. MS usually allows a member to do more than one transfer per year if the member has different use years and is transfering points from one use year to the other. In that case, you may be allowed to transfer points from both memberships 2 and 3 to no. 1 to get the 60 points needed. However, you have something that makes that possible transfer unclear because the members are different on membership 3 from membership 1and 2. However, the dual transfer still might be allowed If you request MS to do it.

All the plotting and running through different scenarios was for nothing. Points haven’t loaded on membership #3 and really wanted to leave membership #2 alone so we can swap into a 1BR at 7 months or maybe do a split stay. Membership #1 is the largest contract and has more borrowing capacity. Was anxious about waiting until 9am EST to call MS and potentially lose availability for HHI and/or long wait time on a work day. I’m already late as it is,,,,But, my daughter and future son-in-law now have their mini-honeymoon booked!

And I do hate it when my husband ends up being right - his advice was do whatever is easier!

I have also had no issues transferring points more than one time if transferring them to myself. But it was prepandemic. Not sure if things are different now.

Happy I didn't wait on those 7 points. Days and room I needed are waitlisted at 7.onths + 1 day.:worship:
