We promised my daughter (now 16 years old) 5 years ago that we would take her to WDW in 2002 for the 100 years of magic celebration. Five years have flown by and who would have thought that the dollar would be so miserable. My husband has opted to stay home (to save money) and look after the house and dog while my daughter and I go on our own from August 25 to September 1. My question is: Should I book a room at the All Stars now or wait to see if some good rates come out for that week. As Aug. 25 is the start of value season I am worried that I could end up not getting a room in the AS. I remember that there were some excellent rates ($59.00?) in the summer leading up to the year 2000 celebration. The only airfare I have found for that time period would be $1100.00 (CDN) for the two of us and 5 day park hopper passes are $400.00 each from the DS. So does anyone have an opinion on this? Am I starting too early or should I slow down and wait for better room rates and better air fares? Thanks for any input.

any vacation especially when it involves flights etc.
Have you thought of a all inclusive vaction, that has flights, hotel and maybe a car?
Are you determinded to stay on site or is off site OK with you? There are good and not so good points about being on-site. If you haven't any transportation than you more or less eat every meal on the resort and that can be expensive. Have you talked to a travel agent about prices and deals coming up for the summer? If you have a membership in CAA , they can also have some good deals on . Also if you find a good price a lot of places let you book and cancel within a certain time period without any penalty. Just a warning though ( from my own expierence and I don't want to anger those people who believe that Disney can do no wrong, but....) if you are making any reservations through Disney themselves and its a great price, book it right away, you can always cancel, if you change your mind. The reason I suggest this as Disney reservation people have a tendancy of not knowing their own prices and will quote you a price. a date or a deal and lo and behold even though you have the person's name , its amazing how often 'those prices, those dates and gee whiz that person doesn't seem to exist anymore!!' These are all thing to take into consideration when planning a Disney holiday.
Oh and by the way, here's wishing you and you Daughter a great holiday!!

From Toronto, look at travelling from Buffalo using discount airline like Southwest or try booking using Travelocity or another search engine to find discounts. No rush with a August dpearture I'd imagine. I'd also get your husband to come..... It is afterall a family place and the 16 year old will probably not be listening to Dad much longer (LOL).

I also am a proponent of staying offsite and enjoying the other things Orlando has to offer.

I personally am not one to get obsessed with all things Disney so I saty offsite and save huge $ on hotel and have more room.

I say book your room now, and if a discount comes out for that time frame try to have it applied to your existing reservation. I second the fly out of southwest suggestion. You could bring DH and still fly for less than $1100.00.

I would personally stay on site at All Stars or even look into booking at a DVC resort through a DVC member you can usually find points for around 10 dollars/point and if they need to use them even cheaper and fly out of Buffalo it will save you a tonne
