need advice on what tickets to buy

We are planning a 5 day-4 park trip in December. Hopefully there will be a room only discount for the All-Stars (last year was $59 @ night). We will be coming back in July for the AAU Nationals for ds to be held at Disney's Sports Complex. My question is :

*What kind of park ticket should we buy?

Should I buy just a park hopper ticket with extra days to be used on both trips.

Or a park hopper plus ticket?

(My problem with this is :
1. We probably won't be visiting a water park on the December trip.
2. I'm not sure if we would have a chance to go to one on the July trip either.)


Or should I buy 1 AP to get the discount on the room in July? Also, with the AP, how many rooms can you book and get a discount?

As you can see it seems very confusing. Any advice will be greatly appreciated

You can get up to 3 rooms per AP (even a child AP)

As for tickets, it doesn;t say how long you will be there for the second trip. I bought a 7 day hoppr from Paramount for $301. It included 4 plus features and a free character breakfast (including tip and tax). It is getting us through 2 trips. If you will be there 4 days for your 2nd trip and doing parks all days of both trips, than an AP is a better deal.
