I have been to Disney many times but not with my own child before. We will be going again in December with her and she will be about 7 months.

Any advice on rides that work and don't , the simple dynamics on seating , do we just switch off or don't bother and just enjoy looking around? I was thinking about just skipping the rides but was curious what others did.

I have to admit I don't really remember what others were doing with their children.

We have been enough that not going on a ride is not a big deal.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am going in Oct. with my 2 DD's 4yrs and 8 months.

I was figuring that I would probably not do any of the rides with my 8 month old, and only take her in for the shows (playhouse Disney etc).

We figured we would do the child swap as we saw last night on the travel channel show, where our very own Erika, did the very same thing when it came to her 2 beautiful boys (and they were much older than my 8 mo old)

I think when traveling with such young kids, the child swap is the way to go, but that's just my thought.

We are going in December with our then-11-month-old granddaughter, and we are thinking that she will do better with rides than with shows! She is fascinated by EVERYTHING and we think that she will enjoy the Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, Buzz, etc. etc. and will not likely be too scared by things quite yet. We could be wrong and we will find out when we try. We will do swapping with the rides she can't go on, and we know it may turn out to be a challenge and are prepared for lots of resort time if need be. Check out the Families board; lots of great suggestions.

Any ride wihtout a height requirement is fine for youngs ones.
We took our youngest DS when he was 8 months and he got to do a lot.

Our youngest son was 9 months when were there last October. He loved all the rides (obviously no thrill rides...just switch off if you really want to do them). He especially liked Peter Pan, Dumbo, Aladdian (sp?), Buzz Lightyear (colors), Playhouse Disney. I could go on and on, but they were his favorites.

Last year was a breeze...this year he will be 22 month when we go in November....much more challenging...lol!!!

Have a great trip!

We took a 7 month old and she enjoyed all the rides she did and a few shows. The rides were actually a bigger hit than shows--I'm thinking it's because of the movement. They aren't afraid of much at that age so give everything without a height restriction a try!

Have fun!

I'm glad to hear all these good experiences with an infant.

Just like drdelsol (Congratulations, drdelsol!), my DW and I have been many times but we are going in September with our first child. Our DS will be just over 7 months old when we're there. We also asked along both sets of babysitters... I mean... grandparents. ;)

DS is a real people watcher and is really fascinated with anything he's never seen before, especially if it is colorful. He's very content and happy the majority of the time. So we hope that, just like I'm reading here, he will really enjoy rides like Buzz, Pooh, etc. (Unfortunately IASW will still be in rehab.)

What about the Safari or the animal trails at Animal Kindom? Did your kids enjoy those at all?

Were there any rides in MGM and Epcot that they enjoyed?

What about the parades and fireworks?

What about encounters with the characters?

Although we'll play it by ear and adjust to him, right now we plan to take him into the parks for some time each morning, then either us or the babysitters... oops, I did it again... grandparents will take him back to the hotel. Then, if he's gotten some good nap time, we may take him back into the parks for a short time in the evening to experience the parks at night (he loves colored lights).

Of course we're not going into this with unreal expectations; we know this is more for us than it is for him. It's more about us getting to experience his reactions than it is him remembering his first Disney World experience.

But the overriding plan is to completely adjust to him... I refuse to be one of these parents dragging a screaming infant around the park. If he doesn't enjoy the parks at all... well, that's why we have us and 4 other adults that love him along. We'll all take turns enjoying time with him at the hotel. (We have a 2-bedroom at BWV, which should be a big help with an infant along.)

Thanks, in advance, for any advice.

We took our ds when he was 8 months old. He LOVED WDW. He had to give every character he met a kiss, he would lean right over, open mouth and SMACK, usually on the nose.

His favorite ride was the Tomorrowland Transit Authority in MK. OMG! He was so funny on that ride! He rode that hing all day long! He was so happy.

Like other have said, any ride without a height restriction he can go on ( this is why I LOVE WDW so much, most of their rides are family rides).

To be honest, before I took my son, I could not imagine bringing an infant to WDW. I used to think "they don't even know where they are, how much fun can they have?"...well, let me tell you, my 8 month old was soooo happy when we were there. He was having a BLAST! I think he enjoyed it more than my 2 yo DD and 4yo DS.

We have been to WDW many times as a family, but I have to say, the most memorable was the trip when Danny was 8 months old.

HAVE FUN!
