Hi Everyone-

Well I'm about to make reservations for our second trip home, but our first trip to VWL. Any advice on things that I should request for a 2 bedroom? I was thinking Non-Smoking, 2nd floor or higher, near the elevators and pool view. Any comments on any of those requests, or recommendations on other things that I should request additionally/instead? Having never been to VWL, I really, *really* appreciate any assistance that you guys can give.

Thanks!!

Jon

Oh yeah - one more question - should I really make the ressies day by day at the 11 month mark? How busy a time (in DVC terms) is the last week in October?

I am going for my first time, but I requested the following in this order:
Water view (either lake or pool)
Top floor, side closest to the lodge
Near elevator if possible
Non smoking

I put them in that order because majority of rooms are non smoking anyway...I would rather have them fill my requests for views. I wanted to have a view of the lake, but there isn't a really good one. Regardless, if my preferences are met, I would have a great view of whatever is going on down below.

Don't request 2nd floor or higher, because then you might be more likely to just get 2nd floor. Request top floor, and then let them go down from there. The higher up you are the better.

I must agree with Caskbill on that one. Request TOP floor.

As far as smoking preference, to me that is a priority!! I would die being in a room after a smoker!!! Especially since I am a reformed smoker and the smell just makes me sick!!!

I don't think you will need to do the "day by day" ressies strategy at the 11 month mark. I've made two VWL ressies for next summer and had no problem booking the entire stay there each time. My guess is that the last week of October should not be a problem. Unless Mickey's Halloween Party is THAT big of a draw? I guess I'll defer to others as to whether that time is a heavy DVC usage time.

I just booked a 2 bedroom for 10 days at VWL for mid-October 2002 and had no problem. Good Luck.

Don't set your goals too high or you are sure to be disappointed. We asked for upper floor, non-smoking, view. Guess what we got? Bottom floor, woods (view), and smoking. We opened the doors and aired it out, it wasn't that bad, and we are big anti-smokers! Yeah, we struck out! So what, we had a great time, found our pluses along the way; ie. right next to the back exit, short trek to the laundry, next to the trash and recycles. And, they gave us a room that was available at check-in; about noon time. Now, that's a hugh plus.

My point is, if you just take what you get, you will never be disappointed if you keep a positive attitude. There are only a very few rooms at VWL that are "perfect" rooms. Just staying in a DVC room is a "perfect" room IMHO. Go and enjoy, you will love this resort! Our "home" is BWV, and DH only wanted to ever stay there. After our most recent trip to VWL, he has changed his mind and we are booked again in the spring at VWL and are thinking of adding on there. Each resort is unique and the differences make each as exciting as different. Happy planning!:smooth:

It is true what others have written about request (msdiz) Didn't get anything I requested either, only asked for non-smoking/non-handicapped. But we loved being DVC members and had a grand time. Anyway, the smoking room really wasn't a problem and I'm pretty sensitive to the smell of smoke. We had a 'woods' view and one afternoon as I was relaxing on our balcony, I saw a doe and fawn in the woods. It was really fun! If you looked to the right out of our room, it looked towards the bus stop area. Walk to the elevator wasn't too far either. Enjoy!
