OK, our plan is to stay at the dolphin in Sept. We are going for a week and getting the room for $139/night plus the resort fee of $14 and tax ($176/night). We are also getting a room for my mom for $119/night plus tax. We will also have to pay around $200 to get back and forth from the airport.

My dilema. Free dining is probably going to come out. We have 3 children and 2 adults in our room. We will not be able to get the ddp at the dolphin, so will have to pay OOP for all of our meals. The food prices seem high at the dolphin, even in the cafeteria (breakfasts seem to be around $10-11 before a beverage.). The boardwalk Inn is $345/night and $370 for 2 of the days we would be there. Do you think we will be saving enough money at the dolphin for it to be worth it to stay there?

You'll need to add up your total cost and compare.

Room per night
+ food per day
= total cost per day
x number of days
= total resort cost
+ transportation from airport
= total trip cost

Have fun!

Consider that the food prices are comparable to other food prices at the Epcot area resorts. And, wherever you stay (BW or S/D), you are free to walk between resorts to pick where you eat. I can't do the calculation from here, but it seems that the cost difference = room cost savings minus transpo from airport minus. Assuming free dining, factor those savings in as well.

Assuming Free Dining will be offered for your dates one thing to remember is at the Boardwalk Inn you will still end up paying the rack rate. However I guess you also need to factor in how many people are travelling in your party, so it still might be a good deal and how many Table Service Restaurants you want to eat at.
