I am flying down to Orlando in May to celebrate my 40th birthday- just spending one night. I checked on flights from Greenville, SC to MCO a couple of weeks ago and the price was $200. Today for the same Delta flight it is $280. I could go from Atlanta on AirTran for $200, but the sale ends tomorrow. GSP is much smaller, and I would prefer to fly out of there. Do you think air fares are going to come down or should I purchase from AirTran? I haven't flown anywhere in several years, so I need some advice. Thanks.

I don't think anyone has a clue what the airlines will do.

That said I think you may be about as low as you are going to get between now and May. You indicated airfare has gone up. That could mean they sold all the cheap seats and the price will only increase. There have not been a lot of sales with great domestic airfares lately and if you don't have AirTran or something like that keeping airfares down in Greesboro, you are probably going to pay more.

I doubt it will get much cheaper for May, unless there is a major drop in bookings. I expect they raised fares bcs bookings were strong for your dates, seeing if the nice folks of Greenville will help keep their airline out of chapter 11 by paying more :teeth: .

The question becomes, is $80 a person worth saving yourself a drive to Atlanta, which seems to be a good poke from Greenville (what, maybe 150 miles? maybe 3 hours extra each way? Maybe not so long down South, but up here it's what we call "wicked far"). And then there's dealing with Atlanta traffic, Hartsfield and parking. Well, you do the equation.

Good luck!

I bit the bullet and bought the Delta ticket out of GSP. I was afraid it would just increase in price. We live between Greenville and Atlanta, but I hate to go to the Atlanta airport. It is a zoo.

Wel done! It's always nice to fly out of a smaller airport especially in a friendly place like Greenville SC ( or my fav', Portland Maine, near home), and if you can fly direct. It's good for your sanity.

Hey and if fares come down out of Greenville, just call Delta and get a credit (provided it's more then the change fee).

Enjoy!
