Need a used vehicle-what do you think? Kia or Hyundai

I bought a new Hyundai Excel in 1986, and it ran fine until I spun on black ice about eight years later and crashed head-on into the car behind me.

I bought a new Hyundai Elantra in 2003, and except for regular maintenance and one small emissions issue, it's been fine. Next car (if I ever need one ;)) will either be another Hyundai, or the Kia Soul recommended by ssawka, above. I drove one on vacation a couple of months ago - that's a fun vehicle!

Thanks for all the responses! I spent all day yesterday test driving Kias, Hyundais, and even some Honda's. Still have not made up my mind. I would like to stay under $15,000. Yes, you are right the Hyundai 100 thousand mile power train warranty does not transfer to a second owner, but the origional warranty will still be available if its under the mileage and years. However, I was told the Hyundai lifetime roadside assistance transfers! I will get that in writing that way I don't have to renew my Triple A which is up in April. Right now I am leaning towards a Kia Sportage, Kia Sorento or a Hyndai Tuscan right now.

Just be careful. We bought my son a Hyundai with 43K miles on it and the transmission went out within a month. Hyundai said too bad even though it had been recalled and there was a lawsuit against them. We are still fighting them.

If you would have posted this last year I would have been the biggest Kia :cheer2: out there. We have owned Kia's for the past 10 years. This past July my DH took our Sedona in for a 60,000 mile service. When they were done checking her out all they said she could use were new brakes. No problem, we put the brakes on. Not 24 hours later my DH with my DD's in the van calls and says that the van suddenly jerked, sputtered and stopped. :scared1:

We got it towed back in and were told that our timing belt had broke. When it broke it jammed our engine and we needed a new engine. Now to be fair, it is clearly listed in the owners manual to have it changed at 5 years OR 60,000 miles. The van had just rolled 60,000 and was just over 7 years old. When Kia was contacted to see if they would at least help with some of the cost they flat out refused. We were stuck with a $3800 engine repair. That is only because the dealership gave it to us at cost saving us an additional $1800. They said they knew they should have asked if we ever changed the belt.

After being 10 year loyal customers we will never buy from them again. My vote: go with Hyundai. Good Luck!

All of the ones I am considering a motor trend certified by the dealership that is selling them! So that covers engine, tires, etc. In addition to any remaining warranty.
