I am more than half Irish--actually I am more Irish than my DH who has the Irish name (he is only 1/4). So although the kids have all of our backgrounds mixed (Irish, German, Polish, Italian, English, Scotch) they are more Irish than anything else.
You would think I would like corned beef and cabbage. Uh....NO! I think it's gross. Even the smell gags me out. I don't like to go out to eat on St. Pat's Day because that's all you can smell in some places.
Any other Irish folk not like our "traditional" dish?

DH is significantly Irish and HATES corned beef and cabbage. He called from Iraq today and I told him that he was missing his favorite meal. I think he was relieved to be eating in the mess hall!

I looked at the corned beef at the store today, and even uncooked it looked nasty - like it had gone bad, already. No wonder it smells so bad.

Denae (not Irish)

I'm 100% Irish, born and bred here. And can't stand cabbage. Can live (just about) with bacon, but can't even stay in the same room if mom is cooking cabbage!

Count me in - I don't like corned beef, cabbage or Irish soda bread!

I'm with you. I can't even stand the smell of corned beef or the look.

Add me to the list...and as the daughter of a "KELLY"..very Irish mom, she doesn't like it either so I am allowed! I actually don't know of too many who do like it...maybe the Irish bread if washed down with enough green beer... :rolleyes1 :shamrock:

I'm Irish and I can't stand the stuff. Unfortunately I'm the only one in the family, so I usually end up making myself a PB sandwich

I actually don't know any real Irish people who eat corned beef and cabbage. That said, we are part Irish (although my ancesters came over so long ago I'm not sure it even still counts. lol). My mom makes corned beef and cabbage every year and growing up every year I would make myself take a bite of the corned beef, then would fill up on the potatoes and carrots. I just don't like corned beef. I'm usually one to love traditions and to carry them from year to year, but thankfully dh doesn't like it either, so I'm off the hook on that one.

I'm an O'Grady by birth (and just look at my first name, lol) and I can't stand it! :shamrock: I do however love pinching people. :rotfl: I have green eyes and use that as my back up if I don't wear green on St. Patrick's Day :rolleyes1

Oh i'm with you too. I'm VERY Irish and I can't stand the smell of corned beef and cabbage, nor like the taste. My grandma makes it every St Patty Day for herself, grandpa and her sister and brother in law. I stay away!

I'm part Irish (right down to the last name, and the freakin freckles), but I HATE corned beef and cabbage. I'm not a real big fan of the color green either. My parents aren't real big fans of it either. My (non Irish) stepdad cooked it once, and my (somewhat Irish) mother banned it from the house after that :cool1:

Me too... I can't stand it!!! My mom used to always make us "green" spaghetti instead although that's not surprising.... she's full Italian. I get the Irish from my dad's side :teeth:

Also very Irish and also very much dislike corned beef & cabbage. Went to our favorite "Irish" pub to eat once on St. Pats only to find out they were ONLY serving corned beef and cabbage that day - yuck! We had to leave :(

I'm about 1/4 Irish and don't like corned beef and cabbage...however NC Beast is more than 1/2 Irish and loves it. I make it every other year for him---and make something else for myself. When we were in Ireland in 2001...I don't recall seeing it on the menus at the pubs and resteraunts.
