Need a sticky on DVC trade board and here.

On these boards, one cannot PM unless they have 10 posts. Is there a way to make this a sticky. I am having a hard time communicating with some of the "newbies" with less posts and they are frustrated because they don't realize this rule.

YES, that would be good to know. I tried to PM someone when I first joined and couldn't do it. Luckily they had provided their email address so I was able to contact them.

If you are renting points to a "newbie", just put it in your post. Many do not feel comfortable renting to or from folks who don't have a history on the boards anyway.

Stickies are widely ignored, so that may not be the solution you hope for. Adding a line to the posting requirements might work better.

Does the email thru DIS work, or is that a 10-post requirement also?

This has already been added to the 'sticky' postings as part of the 02/01/08 revisions.

We don't know yet how much this will help. As mentioned, people don't bother to read these things.

Here is the relevant section as it is listed in the Sticky Post:

"Personal Messages: Communicating with other DISboards members

Many Rent/Trade board participants use Personal Messages (PMs) to respond to threads posted on the R/T board. PMs are also sent automatically by the software used to process the Rent/Trade board to notify posters whether or not their thread has posted or has been locked due to non-maintenance. Some of the users posting on the R/T board have elected not to receive PMs. This makes it difficult for other users to respond to their requests for reservations, reservation/points for rent, etc. It is suggested that if you are going to post on the R/T board, you enable Private Messaging on your DISboards account. Click on "User CP" (towards the upper left corner of this page) to access the User Control Panel and then click "Edit Options". Under "Messaging & Notification" check "Enable Private Messaging".

Users who have enabled Private Messaging will be able to receive PMs but must also have a post count of six or greater to send/reply to a PM. This can create a problem if a user with a post count below six has posted a thread on the R/T board and is receiving PMs about their thread but cannot reply to them! If you need to increase your post count, consider posting on the other DVC boards where you can ask whatever questions you may have about DVC and about rentals, points, amenities, etc. You will find a lot of interesting and helpful information there as well. There is also a Test Board where you can experiment a little and also increase your post count if necessary. Once your post count is six or higher, you will be able to reply to those PMs!"

BTW, the minimum number of posts to Send a PM is 6. 10 is the minimum number of posts to have links.

There is no required minimun number of posts to have an e-mail in your posting.

I wasn't clear in my question, Bill.

What I was asking is whether there is a minimum post requirement for someone to receive an email sent by clicking on the new poster's screenname and using the DIS "Send email to" feature? Provided, of course, that feature had been enabled by the member

If not, the obvious alternative would be to include your regular email in your thread, but a lot of people would be reluctant to do that.
