A question for those of you who have used a referral to buy your DVC. When you call and tell them your refferals information do they just ask for the name or city and state as well?

Thanks

If anyone needs a DVC Owners referral, please PM or email me (snarfer-1@excite.com).

I will split the referral reward with you!

-Tony

When I buy into DVC I have some friends who are intested too. Can you tell me what the referral reward is and if its available to people in Iowa?

Thanks

They asked for name and then used city/state to double check that it was really the right person that they had pulled up on the screen.

Does anyone have the lists of states in which you can get the referral reward? (or not get it)

Which states are eligible for the Program? An Eligible State is any state that permits rewarding Members for their participation in the Sharing the Magic Program. Currently those states are: Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Puerto Rico is also an eligible jurisdiction.

I have just spoken to a guide called Steve at DVC having phoned up to make a purchase under the current referrral offer, only to be told that I can't.

Basically I went on the tour in early December whilst on vacation and didn't give a referral name at that time (I didn't know anyone who was a member). During the tour I was told that I could have a $10 reduction but this was only valid until 72hrs after returning home. Well with a 24hr delay getting home due to our flight being cancelled and rushing to get things sorted for Christmas, the 72hrs came and went.

Since then I have been considering the options available to me and reading posts on this site, where I discovered the member referral offer. An existing member here in the UK was kind enough to send me their name so that I could get the offer.

I phoned up and was told that all incentives were only valid for 72hrs after my return home and that they wouldn't honor the offer.

Has anybody else been in this situation and managed to get the offer?

It looks like I will have to either wait until I go back to Florida in September and see if they will offer an incentive or purchase via resale.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Paul.

Um...you should be able to get the member referral offer for $15 off a point as long as you have a member name and city/state. That offer is good until Jan 20. However, you can't double-dip and get both promotions (even if you called within the window). The best you can do is buying in at $86 per point.

We also went on a tour in early Dec. After getting home, we learned about the member referral offer and decided that was a better promotion. We did call back within the 72 hrs, but decided not to use that incentive and to use the member referral instead. We had no problems.

Maybe you should consider talking to a different guide? Maybe you could get the name/phone of the guide who you are using as a referral? I'm sure there are many many people on these boards who have a guide to recommend. :)

(unless there is some restriction for UK purchasers that I don't know about?)

Paul,

I agree that you should call back and speak to someone else.

You can explain to them that you took the tour and wasn't ready to purchase, and that your referral person gave you more info and convinced you to purchase now, especially with the incentive.

I would stand firm, and tell them you probably won't purchase if you can't get the referral price.

It's probably worth another call to try and get the offer re-instated, but DVC has been known to stand firm on the 72-hour purchase decision.

It sounds like the 72-hour promotion expiration was properly communicated and ignored. I understand that one could argue the Friends & Family is a slightly different promotion, but I've read about situations in the past where DVC declined to offer ANY discounts on the resort beyond the grace period. I believe the message that is communicated is "if you don't buy within the indicated timeframe, the price will be $101 per point."

Again, it's possible that continuing to climb the ladder will yield some results, but it sounds like the Guide is just following policy. They wouldn't be communicating the 72-hr timeframe to guests if they intended to arbitrarily ignore it.

The 72 hr rule is only for the incentive offered during your stay at Disney. The Friends & Family promotion is just whenever. You could call up and say, "I met a DVC member, and they told me about this great promotion, and I want to buy in!" That has nothing to do with when you took the tour/were at Disney. (We just did this to buy in at SSR.)

Do you know that for a fact or are you just assuming?

You said in your own post that you agreed to buy within the 72 hour window. Paulieuk1969 did not. The fact that you opted for a different promotion seems to be secondary to the affirmative response.

Over the years I distinctly remember several posters here saying they delayed their DVC purchase several years because (perhaps among other things) DVC wouldn't extend them any discount at the property they toured. They had to wait until another property was introduced and were then able to get a discount at that resort.

The Guide's negative response seems to bear this out. I can't see any reason why the Guide wouldn't simply honor the discount and make the sale if he were able.

Well for us we had looked into it and were going to buy. We decided against it. Then on a visit we decided to go over to the boardwalk and meet up with our guide we had been talking with for many months. She wasn't there but another guide gave us the tour and sat down with us and did the whole spiel even though he kew we knew all about it. Same thing, 72 hours to take advantage of incentives. We again decided not to buy. Then F&F promotion came around many months later and I called outr guide and bught in under that. He had actually told me after that since we were already in the system (we had gone as far as a downpayment very earlier on) that we didn't even need a referral, we could have "referred" ourselves.

So that 72 hour rule didn't apply to us. Guess it all depends on your guide.

Our guide told us that the 72 hr window didn't matter if we used the Friends and Family promotion instead of the incentive offered when we toured.
