More importantly newbies...

Do your homework and ask questions so we can help you make good financial decisions for your family.
All of us buy in our own time and when we are comfortable, both, with the program and the $$ output ;)

Its all 1 reward "program". Rewards can be taken in 4 ways: DD, toward your mf, toward an add on, to a Disney charity.

We are looking into just purchasing DVC for our June 07 trip. Have only been to WDW once several years ago and not again due to high room costs for a six member family. Only makes sense to do DVC and since are kids are now in their teens and twenties, future trips make sense also.

I need to call Disney yet, but if it sounds good to us, I would like the ability to buy the SSR with the referral discount so if anyone is willing to give me their referral info, our family would deeply appreciate it!

Send you a PM. :)

Thank You! Looking forward to experiencing the Magic once again!

Glad to help. Of course, you do realize DVC is a significant investment, right? The current promotional price is $86 per point with the minimum purchase being 150 points. So the minimum outlay you're looking at is $12,900, plus annual dues.

Now those points give you the right to visit annually until 2054, so it's effectively pre-paying for years of vacations. But the up-front cost IS considerable.

Just wanted to make sure you understood that. The more I re-read your original post, the more uncertain I was whether you really understood the required investment.

Thanks for all the PM's and referrals. I have not had a chance to call Disney yet but I did want to clariy something for those of use newbies who are looking to buy. When we were given the promo info this past Sat were were quoted the following for SSR:
$101/point, 200 bonus points to use immediately or bank in addition to receiving our allotment of points in Aug of 2007, and $2000 toward down payment.

When we did the math, it is cheaper to go this route than to use the referral plan unless you can do it all. I doubt that you can but I will call and check.

Any input from those of you who belong would be appreciated.

Yes it is understood. When we are looking at spending several thousands on a room with the space we like to have versus buying DVC, it only makes sense to us plus be on-site. I factored in an amoritized annual dues increase of 3.5% per year on top of the original buy-in price over the term of the lease (2054). If we went every three years with banking/borrowing points, it turns into a very affordable vacation! (At the very least it is close to what we would spend at a place off-site with all of the off-site disadvantages.) Not to mention the fact our children will marry and have their own families before too long. If we were to split that money four ways and give it to them as gifts, it would be nice but would still not be as appreciated as free lodging for their families in the future at WDW!

A special thank you to everyone. It's been a pleasure reading the threads the past several days and reading your replies. Just need to go over final details with the DW and hope to be buying soon!

I just purchased 200 points at SSR.. $86 per point, I received 2006 points. With the $15 credit per point I saved $3,000 so the Family/Friend promotion is better!

Are you sure you can get the extra points *and* the $10 off per point? I was told it was one or the other....?

Our guide Aaron told us that we could get the $2000 off and the bonus points. That was what he wrote on our paperwork although I have not received it yet so we will see when it comes.

NoKatMom... that's GREAT NEWS !! I would ask 1 question:
What is the purchase price per point that he quoted you??? And...be SURE you check it when you get the paperwork!!! If your guide screwed up, you'll still have time to get your referral in by 1/20.

NoKatMom..TiggerAllie..vfinder1

Let me say that when I purchased my 200 pts., I was offered either the previous years allotment of pts. OR $2,000. off my purchase price.

This is the only SSR DVC advertisement on the official Disney web site for SSR DVC and note no mention of additional pts. when buying::

SO... this tell me that you either get a price of $91. per pt. (saving that 10% on 150 pt. purchase.)

OR
pay $101. and get extra pts ( how ever many you are buying) from '06

Now..there's this promo which is the "best one".;)

.....go the referral plan for $86. per pt w/member referral

Question-

How long after you say you want to buy into the DVC are you showed up as a member so people can use you as a referral? Does it take after you sign the papers and they process them? If so do you know how long after the papers are processed?

Thanks

Hey... Victor...

You sound like a veteran already !! Ya Hoo !!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

You need to wait "till you ARE a member"...after closing and getting your membership cards..:thumbsup2

BTW.... I'll take you off the BCV "wait list".....right??

I also like your SSR signature and ticker for that Nov. vacation!! :cheer2:

party: You GO !!party:

Good question - my best guess would be after you've actually closed...although the DVC member website knows we exist... We bought in Dec but don't close until almost the end of Jan - so I wouldn't expect to be "official" throughout the entire system just yet...

We are still on the BCV waiting list, now we need October UY and want about 100 points. I guess our chances will be better since they can now give us ANY points, like if 20 open up they will call us :)

OK..Gottcha!!:thumbsup2

You will find that the "add on wait" is now less stressful since you will already have a "home" !!!:cool1:

Yeah, could't pass on the great Family/Friend promotion and the added 12 years also made the purchase even better. Still hoping SOMETHING opens up at the BCV soon! I am going to try and make my reservations at BCV 7 months out with our SSR points, I hope we can get in. :)

How do you know when you have officially closed?

I don't know. I forget the actual date they told us - they said it takes 4-6 weeks from when you sign. So I'm assuming we'll get some notification in the mail & probably our permanent member cards.
