We'll be vacationing in the Escondido area next week, and we would like to hook up one day with some relatives from Camarillo (ages 65 - 70) while we're there.

They have offered to come meet us in Escondido, but I know that it is a very far drive, especially for less than a day.

Can anyone suggest a good meeting place and activity that would be roughly halfway? Something along the coast? If it's not exactly halfway, that's OK. (I just hate the thought that we'd do all that driving just to half lunch or dinner and hang out a while, so it would be great to be prepared with an alternate suggestion!!!)

Disneyland, of course! Even if you don't want to go to the park with them, you could always spend a few hours in Downtown Disney, shopping and eating.

What other activities would you like to do? Shopping? An amusement park? (Disneyland is
the obvious choice then) A show? Horse racing? A movie?

Long Beach is about half way. On the coast, nice restaurants and even the Queen Mary.

Laguna Beach or San Juan Capistrano (not on the coast) are more in your favor. Both offer
nice places to eat.

Santa Monica and Beverly Hills (not on the coast) are more in their favor. Both offer sights
to see and places to eat.

You could catch the train in Oceanside, they could catch the train in Camarillo and you
could meet in downtown Los Angeles. Lots to do there.

Gladstone's in Malibu.

Santa Monica

Long Beach

Are my suggestions.

I agree with the suggestions for Long Beach, Laguna, Newport. I also have to throw in my vote for Seal Beach since you wanted coastal suggestions. On Main Street there's a restaurant called Walt's Wharf that is awesome for seafood and the grilled artichoke is out of this world. It's a small area so you can walk up and down Main Street easily. If you wanted something a little more casual you can walk out on the boardwalk and have a meal at Ruby's at the end of the pier. Have a nice visit!

Or meet at the Fullerton station. There's a Spaghetti Factory that shares the same parking lot and they're open for lunch 11:30am-2pm M-F, longer hours on weekends.
