Can anyone recommend a washer - specifically a top loading one? The one we are replacing is a front loader and my wife hates it. Thanks!

I don't have a suggestion, but would like to see the responses. I will be shopping for a new one soon as well. I've heard bad things about front load and the top load with no agitators. I would like to hear what others think.

I have a Whirlpool top loader with no agitator and love it. I have only had it a couple months but I bought it because my mom has had the same one for a while and loved hers.

Is it the Cabrio or another model? :)

I HAD a Cabrio, note the HAD. It was HORRIBLE!!!! I replaced it with an LG top loader and couldn't be happier. The Cabrio was only 3 years old, and put holes in our clothes and sounded like a plane taking off when it spun. I wouldn't recommend the Cabrio models, the dryer also stunk too...... I had the full set and both were replaced by the LG's......

We purchased the Whirlpool Cabrio. We love it. I did a lot of research before I bought a top loader. Didn't think I would like not having an agitator. Clothes come out clean, no noise when it is spinning.

We bought a Samsung front loading set and love them. They are 2 years old and we have two small children so they do seem to run non stop. Whirlpool doesn't seem to have the same quality they used to.

I would love to offer up my opinion on maytag top loaders. I hate mine. As i cabt recomnend a machine i would hate to see someone else get one of these. U have to constantly babysit it. It throws the clothes to one side and goes off balance and thumps like the agitatorless drum is going to explode from the machine. Hate it .
I m also intersested un what people recommend ...

I have had my Kenmore for 20 years. Easy to use and last for a long time.

When we were looking, we heard good things about Fisher Paykel. However, DH picked up a used something or other at the local appliance shop. It was stinky so we took it back and I got a Fisher Paykel on Craigslist. It is top loading with an agitator but it is efficient. Works great. I think they sell them new at Best Buy.

Be sure to check Consumer Reports for reliability ratings on the various brands and models.

We have a top load Kenmore Elite (Whirlpool) and it has been reliable. It is 7 years old and we have only had to replace some sort of a plastic part in the top of the tub a couple of years ago. The part was not much money and my DH replaced it in about 15 minutes.

We also have friends that have those "newfangled" front load HE washers and after a while the machine and the towels smell funky.

We are in the market soon to go in the house we are building, so I picked up a consumer reports 2013 buying guide earlier this week. They recommend LG WT4801C, Samsung WA5451AN, and Maytag Bravos XL MVWB750Y as their top 3 best buys. Says btwn $700-950 retail.

I am trying to match our laundry room and would like to give front loaders a try. Looking for a dark gray color, which don't come in every brand. Will look great with the slate floors and buttercup yellow cabinets I picked out tho. Shone have any sets In this color that they rec avoiding or getting?

I love mine.....top loading, no agitator, uses very little soap and does HUGE loads in the washer and dryer. had them about 3 years now and still love them.

We have two washers and two dryers one is a GE top loading washer and I hate it!:goodvibes I know not what you asked.
The other is a Miele 4840 front loader and I love it! We had it 7 yrs and never had one problem(now that I said that it will die:rotfl2:)No funky smells or anything. Mine takes a lot of abuse with 8 of us (soon to be 9). When it dies I will buy another one without question. In the 7yrs I've had it my sister has bought 3 different washers 2 front loaders and one top and has had a whole list of problems with hers. She gets mad when I say mine is still going strong.
So good luck! I know you didn't ask for a front loader but I love mine. I also have a Miele vacuum that I love. So I think I'm a Miele girl:upsidedow

I just got my new washer a month ago. It is a Kenmore elite, top loader HE. I do like it. It can do really big loads of clothes and is unbelievably quiet. I never clothes the lid between washes b/c I read about the HE kind ( regardless of brand) getting the stinky smells if not aired out. Also, I don't let the clothes sit for very long to avoid a smell and wrinkles.

Speed Queen top loader. I love this machine. It isn't HE or have a lot of fancy dials but the clothes get really clean.

We JUST got the Maytag HE washer and dryer - omg, it is seriously the nicest washer and dryer we've ever owned. We have a well water system and the hard water makes the clothes so hard and gross feeling (yes, we need to get a softener one day) - each wash/dry we've done have been wonderful with these new machines. HHGregg had a New Year's special where we got the pair for under $800.

I had to replace my washer in December after the electronics went out in my front loading HE Kenmore. I decided on the Samsung top-load (WA400PJHDWR). I decided to go 'inexpensive' this time and so far I love it. It's easy to use, has a ton of space, and is quite quiet. Both Lowes and Best Buy carry it.

I am interested in the suggestions as well as we are in the market. However, I have not heard glowing recommendations for the HE/Steam machines and a few people have told us to stick with the agitator.
