Need a new washing machine... Suggestions?

You all realize that Whirlpool, Maytag and Kenmore are all made in the same plant?
I was "forced" to buy Whirlpool and every year the engineers come up with some brilliant idea about how to improve them. I have 4 major appliances, 2 years old, by Whirlpool and the repair record is unbelievable on them.
Good news is LG is now making the Kenmore washers and dryers. WP lost the contract.

Have a Kenmore top loader he. Hate is not a strong enough word for how I feel about this washer. It's a year old. We are moving in a few months and it's going to the curb when we move. Not gonna take it. I will buy a traditional machine with an agitator, not anything with HE on it. I know the pp said lg is making Kenmore but we were in sears today while my DH looked at some tools and I went looking at washers. The salesman told me the same thing they told me when I bought my washer. That lg makes the elite or upper level line and whirlpool makes the regular appliances. Don't know who is right but I know my washer came with whirlpool paperwork and it's only a year old (and it's still the same model as being sold).

I have a top loader Cabrio and hate it....it beats clothes up, fades clothes and does not wash well...get an old style agitator model while you still can !!!!!!

I am interested in the suggestions as well as we are in the market. However, I have not heard glowing recommendations for the HE/Steam machines and a few people have told us to stick with the agitator.

stick with the agitator !

It's really hard to find an agitator washer these days.

We purchased a Whirlpool Duet (he) a little over a year ago. It is the greatest washer/dryer we have ever had. We got the large drawers (risers) for underneath. If the washer or dryer was to ever break, I am going to get the exact same kind. They wash great, and they wash a lot of clothes at the same time. I am able to just fit a queen size comforter in the washer.

Consider checking Consumer Reports if you are still undecided.

Good luck!

Had top loader agitators for *years* - just hated the way they twisted and were rough on our clothing. Loved going to the laundromat on vacation and using their gentle front loaders.

When they finally started making home FL's more plentiful, bought one 12 years ago, and I won't look back. No more twisted clothes, spins dryer, less drying time. A year ago updated to a Samsung VRT Steam HE FL and I can't say enough good about it.

Never any *stinky* or need to run any type of *cleaners* through mine. It's always been common sense for me to leave a *wet* washer open to the air to dry out. Any wet closed area can/usually will, get musty or have mildew and odor eventually. Learned from my mom at an early age to let it dry out.

We just had to replace our dryer that died and while in the stores, i would check out the washing machines. I fell in love with this one http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SpecPage&Sku=GTWN7450DWW My mom has a GE HE top loader and has for about 7 yeas now. It's doing great (her's is the model above this). The model blow this would match the dryer but has a huge center agitator and small door.

By the way, right now a bunch of appliances re on sale at Home Depot and they are adding in 10% off in addition to their free delivery and haul away. We got our $749 machine for $539.

GE Adora. It's a top loader with an agitator. We got it in July and I love it!

I have an LG toploader HE washer with no agitator and LOVE it! The reason the HE ones get stinky is because people can't/ don't leave the door open to air out. I used to have one of those and couldn't leave the door open because of where it was located and hated it (it did stink). However, the one I bought is fabulous! Can't recommend it enough.

This is what we got for the dryer and so far we love it. I looked at the washer and thought the agitator was large and the opening was very small. Do you find you hit the agitator as you load and unload?
