Need a ;new vacuum- sell me on your Dyson

another dyson fan here!! i have wanted one for a while, but couldnt justify replacing our vacuum, when it was still working....finally our dirt devil platinum force (which wasnt cheap back at the time we purchased it) it finally slowed down and while i was still hesitant spending the $$$ for a dyson....dh really wanted a dyson too so we went for it...

...we got the DC24 and we love it! its the 'smaller' of the dyson models, but its just what we wanted. its picks up everything and it light enough to carry up stairs and the like.

the only thing i would list as a con, is that the cord it short, at least compared to my dirt devil....that has required some getting used too. otherwise i am a fan of dyson!!

I just got my $480 Dyson Slim back from Sears where we had it serviced because it stopped suctioning. I have no pets and only use it for one floor, so I don't see how it could've been to the breaking point.

But anyway, it was under warranty b/c I haven't had it 2 years yet. I looked at the cost to fix it and it was $180!!

I've had way cheaper vacuums that have done the same job and lasted longer. And the very same thing happened to my cousin's Dyson, too. She had the one for pet hair.

I do love my Dyson Animal...it's an older model. It stopped sucking for awhile and I thought it was dead...we don't have a repair in the area, and DH couldn't figure out the problem with troubleshooting online. We bought a $100 vacuum at WalMart that did absolutely nothing and just pushed fur around the carpet. I had to brush it up with my hands after I vacuumed because it literally just made fur patterns and tracks. DH checked the troubleshooting on Dyson online one more time in desperation and found they'd added something new - it was a faceplate that needed adjusting or something like that? Whatever it was, DH adjusted it and it works like a charm again. :goodvibes And we put it through a lot - two labs, two cats (one longhair) and litter in the house...it performs way better than any other vacuum I've ever tried.

I am not sure which model Dyson I have. It is red. I have had it for about 3 years now and it still works great for me. I would buy another one.

I bought a Dyson two years ago and it drives me crazy! It is the basic model (yellow) and I got it from Kohls with the 30% off. It's fine when it has suction, but it frequently looses suction and throws the dirt all around the floor. My dh took it apart last week and discovered something he called a design flaw. He said the hose that attaches to the beater bar sometimes gets bent when you angle the vacuum back, which causes it to loose suction. It's something that I'm going to have to check for every time I notice it throwing dirt around instead of picking it up.

My in-laws got the same model a couple of months after we bought ours, and it is designed differently. They really like theirs and haven't had any problems with it loosing suction.

I wish I could find a decent vacuum! I've had Hoovers, Eurekas and Dysons and haven't really liked any of them.

I was going to buy a Dyson because our dog shed like crazy! My SIL has the animal Dyson and she told me NOT to buy it - that it lost its suction and she was very unhappy with it. I ended up reading reviews online and bought the Bissell Animal something one for like $160 at Best Buy. It is AMAZING! I love it! It got up the dog hair no problem - best vacuum I've ever had.

if you have frieza carpet dont buy the dyson! It ruined my carpet and I learned later on it has a tendancy to do this! It has too much suction and will pull the frieza pieces and make them look like a frizzy mess! It's aweful! This carpet was more expensive than regular carpet and has been ruined. Manufacturer will not replace it cause its basically our fault using the dyson... UGH!

We had a Dyson for about 5 years and I don't think I'll buy another one. It did keep its suction, but had other problems. Pieces broke off frequently. We live in a tri-level house and the sweeper is constantly carried up and down stairs so I am sure that is how it broke frequently. Also, we had to replace a hose ($50) because it got a tear in it. I bought a new sweeper last month and got a Bissel Healthy Home vacuum and it seems to be working great so far. It is bagless and has great suction. It is also made of plastic, but it seems stronger than the Dyson. Like you, I have not had good luck with vacuums so time will only tell. The Bissel cost $240, but you got a $50 gift card from Target with it. (Used that on Black Friday!) I also bought a cheap little Dirt Devil sweeper to keep upstairs for the bedrooms and hallway so the new sweeper didn't have to taken up and down the stairs. For the price of the Dysons, I don't think they are worth it.

I hate my dyson. I bought the "animal" and have been very unhappy with it.

We have all tile and wood floors downstairs and I call my dyson "the dirtblower"

I hate our Dyson. I've had similar problems to what other posters have complained about...dirt just being blown around and suction being lost. It worked great for about the first 3 months and it's been horrible ever since. I will NOT buy another one.
