Need to buy a new couch desperately. Old one was pleather and is all torn up, one of the seats is a big hole where people fall in (not kidding). The problem is that we have a chocolate lab who loves to get up on the couch when he can sneak on, no matter how many times he's reprimanded. Also have 3 kids (one is almost 2), and a DH who really doesn't mean to make a mess, but he does. So, I'm wondering what is my best option material-wise, price-wise, and is getting one with a built in sleeper a good or bad idea? I would like to have a place for MIL or BIL to sleep when we go away (in Sept, to WDW!) and they watch the dog. We have a Seamans outlet and a bunch of furniture places about 30 minutes away. Please give your best advice on a couch that could last through a nuclear war-cause that's what this family needs (without spending a bundle)! TIA for the advice!

BTW-also posted on budget board...

My Mom owns a furniture business so we get to try out a bunch of new stuff!

I currently have a denim (never again - it doesn't hold up!) king chair and a tight weave couch that handles the kids messes quite well!

We're looking into getting a microfiber sectional now, the microfiber cleans up so easily! My Mom has it on her chairs at home, DS spilled sweet and sour sauce on it and it wiped right up, no stains, no spots. The cat hair brushes right off too. It's a little more expensive but it wears so well!

Good luck!

I've bought some inexpensive things from IKEA! I'm not sure if you have one near you, but I love that place.

I used to buy furniture from yard sales, and thrift shops too.:D

I have a couch also made out of microfiber but the furniture person said it was also called "durapella." I don't have any children or pets but that doesn't stop the messes that occur at my house. This couch is wonderful. We have spilled kool-aid, ketchup, salsa, my husband bled on it and still no stains. You have to take a gently face cleanser like neturogena and a damp rag to the sofa to get the stain away. It doesn't leave any wet marks either.

We also have the one with a sofa bed built in. I have slept on it and its not that uncomfortable. Hope this helps.

Good luck,
Tina

P.S. I forgot to mention that our couch is a very light tan/khaki color.
