Need a luggage tip....

I am planning on bringing my laptop on our flight to Orlando in January. The bag I use for it now is a small padded envelope sleeve (with handles and a velcro closure) that slips into it's own tote. When the laptop is in the tote, there is not room for much more...maybe a small book and a few magazines. I am looking for a carry-on (preferably rolling) that has an exterior pocket to store the laptop and have an interior roomy enough to carry an outfit and some toiletries (i.e. our "first night stuff") I haven't been able to find anything affordable. We received a full set of very nice Eddie Bauer luggage for our wedding and it was used once....for our honeymoon I certainly do not want to shell out a lot for a new carry on since this will probably be the only time I use it.

Does anyone have any ideas? My laptop has a 15.9" screen and I would be able to store it in its padded sleeve as long as the carry-on has a pocket that can be easily accessed. The carry-on doesn't have to be a "laptop case" specifically. Most of the rolling laptop cases I've seen are designed for business and the main compartments have all those accordion dividers. Most of the carry-ons I've seen don't have an appropriate compartment to put the laptop sleeve into. I can't believe that nobody makes a carry-on that will hold clothes and a laptop. If not...patent anyone?

Check Lands End or LL Bean. They make basic backpacks on wheels and backpacks with the laptop sleeve built in. I haven't shopped for one recently but they might now have a combo of the 2.

Your other option is to go to either and Office Store or Luggage Store and buy a plain laptop sleeve. I know the Eagle Creek ones run about $20, and since it's just the sleeve it can go into any bag.

Worse comes to worse and you can always do the improvise that I did one time, go to the fabric store and purchase a 1 yard piece of furniture foam. Cut it to fit a little bit more than double the size of the laptop, fold in half and glue gun. Instant protective sleeve.

Target has (or had) a great carry on made by SwissGear. It was $89.00.

It's an airline approved carry on with wheels and a handle and the back is your laptop case. The laptop access is on the side. It offered great protection as the laptop would be protected by the bars that make up the handle assembly.

I bought this and loved it but have a 17 inch laptop and it wouldnt fit, so it had to be returned.

Check this out on ebags... you can't bet the price. $30 for a rolling laptop case. I don't know anything about this bag, but was looking for another one that I got to see if you can get it on bagbuy.com and then using online coupons for it.

Going through airport security, you must take your laptop out of the bag (or luggage) that its in and send it through x-ray seperatley.
