This is not a should I go / should I cancel thing or a I'm gonna cancel thing.

But it is a "I'm concerned about my trip" thing. We are supposed to be going home Feb 12-19th. This would be our third trip since the pandemic started. DW and I have had a difficult year and we really need our home. We need to recharge, and only Disney has the kinda cord that fits our power packs.

I am concerned with all the flights being cancelled left and right and all the services being shut down and people being taken out of the work force in droves. New cases in the US were at 550,000!!! Florida cases up by 948%. We are talking about closing our company doors again until some of this blows over. Whether it's the flights being cancelled, the airport being closed, the ability to get to the airport, Disney CM's, etc. DW is at the point where she says if the plane is cancelled, she's just gonna turn the car the other direction and drive it through (about 17 hours from where I live, I think). Not sure I agree.... but I get how she is feeling.

If we can go, we will go. But the news sure is making me pessimistic (and I'm usually the optimist). Looking for some support here. Give me hope that the world isn't gonna stop turning before Feb. LOL. I mean at this pace, the entire population of the US will catch covid every day (how is that even possible???).

I leave on the 10th and just crossing fingers that the flights go. Headed back in February and March as well so just hoping all goes as planned. Once there, we will adjust to whatever we need to but I too just need me some FL weather and my Disney!

At this point, I think that is all we can do. So, my gut tells me things will be fine for you to get there come February 12th!!!!

My vote is have multiple back-up plans. Flights cancels =be prepared to drive. Once you’re in the bubble, enjoy what is there. Restaurants close = prepare to have groceries and means to cook in your room. Parks have reductions, enjoy the resorts and DTD. Even if there are amenities takeni out, you can still recharge just by being out of your daily grind. On the other hand, if the times comes, and you feel there is too much unknown, maybe one of the beach locations instead or postpone?

I feel like at this point we have to start looking at this as a thing we live with and work around instead of a thing where we lock things up. That point will be different for everyone. Buts as @Sandisw said, go and be willing to make adjustments as needed. But we all need a little joy in our lives and if this is your joy, then go get it! While I can see a disruption of flights, I do not see a majr shutdown happening again so go, do your thing.

I say don't give up hope. Sounds like your wife has a backup contingency plan, like it or not, with the driving, and while not the most desirable way to get there, it's a way to get there.

COVID is the situation it is and short of adding hemorrhagic symptoms to it, I would not let this deter me. Use precautions and take this break.

A little bit of irony in the post, needing to get away and recharge - and a lot of it having to do with the stress of a pandemic! We understand! I agree with other posters saying be flexible if you must, take any precautions, follow any guidelines in place in February, and hopefully enjoy your trip! Be safe.

Just a data point for you - we had such a long delay on a late Dec. flight that door to door it took 12 hours to get "home". If we drove the whole way, it would have taken 12.5 hours!

We have a trip in February 9-13th. We hear you and feel the same. We have been so cautious these last two years. We don’t eat out, even though we are vaccinated and boostered. We don’t go to large gatherings, movies, did remote learning for the kids last year, etc. We aren’t even in a high risk age group, but we have so many in our family that are in the group and I couldn’t imagine getting them sick, so we have done all we can.

Like you, our February trip was supposed to be the break, our first step out into the normal world. Omicron has made that feel like a bad decision though, but I want to go over a few things that are helping us.

One is the canceled flights. Word is, they weren’t often canceled because Omicron is taking out flight crews, but the major airlines restricted vacation time for all employees during the holidays, so many claimed COVID contact so they could get a week off. It’s why we seemingly went from no cancelations to mass cancelations overnight, and amazingly during a holiday. I don’t know if it’s true, but if we see normal flight activity this week and next, well…

Pick up some good 3M N95 masks. I bought a few boxes at Home Depot. They aren’t massively expensive anymore.

Anyway, try to stay positive. Get a vaccine booster if you haven’t already. And hopefully we all will be there in February. 😄

We are going first week of March, I'm not worried in the least about it right now. Here's hoping we follow the pattern of South Africa, massive quick spike and just as quick massive drop in cases a short time later. If not, just be prepared to adapt and overcome. Thats the stance we are taking. :)

Hang in there and have a backup plan. I know driving 17 hours sounds terrible, but I'll share our experience in 2020. We had a trip planned for October. A couple of months ahead of time, our flights were cancelled which at that point in time was actually a relief as pre-vaccine none of us wanted to be on an airplane. We decided to drive. Coming from southwest PA we knew we'd need to stop somewhere along the way and decided to try Hilton Head for the first time. We ended up staying there for 3 nights and fell in love. After our trip we started scouring the resale sites and now are proud owners of 210 HHI points and couldn't be more happy about it. We also ended up stopping in Charleston on the way back for a few days and fell in love with that great city as well. Driving long distances has its challenges, for sure, but you can also discover some pretty amazing things along the way.

Good luck.

Thats one way to adapt and overcome, just buy more dvc points! ;) lol Love it!

Thank you all for the comments. For clarity; I am not thinking of cancelling or worried about COVID for myself or my family. We have both been vaccinated, boostered and had Covid in September. Even though I am in a risk group, if I get it again, I do not feel it will be worse than a mild cold, and I have had plenty of those in my life.

I am not even really concerned about shut downs from a government standpoint. We live in Texas and are going to Florida - both states that are unlikely to add new mandates. THANKFULLY my job is one that if I have to be late a day getting back, I will be late a day getting back. I won't be fired or anything from it.

I am really hoping that we have as fast a drop off as we have had a surge. I just am one of those that gets in my head about worst case scenarios (not in terms of getting sick, but in terms of external factors that could go wrong). Know what I mean? Don't think that my head hasn't considered that 5G is starting in a week and suddenly all flights across the country will come to a standstill.

That's right ahead of an alien spaceship that lets us live our lives, but enforces that we stay in our 'zone' and unfortunately my zone doesn't include any Disney Parks. (okay, okay.... I admit that one is a bit far fetched....).

We skipped our February trip and booked a DISNEY CRUISE out of Nola for February.

We hope to get back in early May and October.

Driving from northeast Louisiana because of all the flight cancellations.

Plan it as a drive! Make that part of the adventure!

(Sure, it adds some work ... but completely relieves the worry regarding flight cancellations and delays. That is a huge load off the mind ... )

We are all there with you! This board can sometimes be like therapy, lol. We are going to WDW in mid February and I just commented on here the other day that we are going on that trip come hell or high water. We live in Upstate NY and so driving it will be tough if flights get cancelled, but I don't think it's going to come to that. I work in the medical industry and all the projections from my company (one of the largest med device companies in the world) is that the current spike in cases will subside over the next few weeks. Of course things can change, but this will subside. Just keep your head up and ride it out...you are only a few weeks away from your happy place!

There with you. Leave in 4 weeks and going unless I myself am sick. Backup plan is a 24 hour drive and to me that is better than cancelling.

Even if everyone else cancels I am going to at least go. I have a two bedroom - decided new bed every night could be fun. If a Park closes for some reason then I have the pool.

hopefully Florida will Peak soon and we will all be happy.
