Need a jacket/sweatshirt in August?

well i would only bring it if you have the flu or if you think you will be freezing cold in the middle of Florida.

I am definitely in the minority here, but I will be in Disney 8/18-8/26 and I most definitely will bring a light jacket. Just enough to take the chill off in a restaurant. I agree with the others that you certainly do not need it outside, but if you tend to be a cold person (like me) while everyone else is comfy, then bring one.

My dh and kids like the room cooler than me, so I just put my jacket on. I will use my jacket when we are on the airplane. (If we drove, which we don't, but if we did I would bring my down comforter - yikes I know. My mom says my blood is cold.)

The one time we were there in late May and under normal circumstances I would never wear a jacket, but I was having a reaction to the sun and the skin on my arms couldn't tolerate the sun, so I just put my jacket on. I looked crazy but I could go outside and push a stroller.

Bring it, if you don't use it, then so what. It's not like it takes up a ton of space.

The air conditioning is FRIGID in the restaurants...the WORST is when you are wet from a sudden downpour and you decide to go eat and get out of the rain...powerful AC is surrounding you AND you are wet...FREEZING. I was miserable in just such a situation and my dad went and bought me a sweatshirt b/c I was so cold my lips turned blue and I couldn't eat b/c my teeth were chattering! :rotfl:

I too am freakishly cold, but I say it's always better to be safe than sorry! A light terry hoodie folds up nicely and isn't too bulky!

good luck!!!

To all those people who live up north....

In the south, sweaters and jackets are only needed Mid October thru Early March.

As far as AC goes, in August you are usually happy to freeze to death while you are eating. Then that heat will actually feel nice when you step outside.

Packing stuff like that in August is usually a waste of space.

As far as that fluke of cool weather in June mentioned by another poster, that is a rare thing. Something like that usually happens once a decade.

Most of the time in Florida, the rain only makes it steamier, not cooler.

We have gone in the summer for the past few years and now we always have a light jacket for DD10 for the airplane and restaurants. Learned the hard way several years ago. Had reservations at Chef Mickey's and ran into a massive rain storm. We were soaked by the time we got to the restaurant. DD, probably 6 at the time, froze!!! We kept asking for the cloth napkins to put around her. We ate fairly fast just to get back in the warmth. Looked to buy a sweatshirt, but being July, the only place was at POC gift shop. Even up north, she usually needs a light sweater for restaurants.

no but maybe a raincoat/smock or umbrella. we went in august 2002 & it was so hot & rainy.

Being from the midwest, I wondered this too. I thought it would be crazy since I heard August is really hot, but you just never know. In May, it was hot than kinda cool some nights.

You will *NOT* need a sweatshirt for nights- as it is almost always very hot, even after dark in Florida in August, however you might want to consider having them for indoors. If you are walking around in the heat and are a little wet or sweaty and then go inside a very cold restaurant or show, the wet/cold feeling can be terrible. It makes me ill just thinking about that feeling.

The thing is, I always bring sweatshirts with me, but forget to bring them in the morning when I've got my sunglasses and Minnie Mouse ears on and I'm scampering off to find some coffee to start my day. At least four times, I've ended up buying something in a store just because I couldn't deal with the cold. (twice in Animal Kingdom in winter months- what is wrong with me?)

So, if you want to have them with you, don't forget to take them with you in the morning, either.

Sweatshirts in August? Never! More often you will wish you could take off the clothes you have on. :lmao:

Nope! It will probably be BOILING in August! And if you did, you would probably leave it behind in your hotel room while exploring disney!
