need a good quality dry cat food

Thanks for all the info.

I supplement with canned food, but the kitties can't eat too much or they get upset tummies.

I have a kitty with tummy issues right now. He has colitis and is on flagyl, but only for one more dose. It hasn't completely cleared up, so I am guessing I will be calling the vet again.

I was hoping to find a food I didn't have to get at the pet store since we don't have one that is convenient.

Kitty eats the Friskies bag that has the orange shade on it.

DH started Kitty on it while I was away...well, he said that's what she WANTED to eat. :faint: He lied his patootie off. But, anyway, she's off the wet food and eating that stuff.

The vet said that all the cat food is well balanced and not to worry about what I buy. Even when all she'd eat was one flavor of the store brand, he said it was fine and she'd be well nourished.

If the vet had told me to buy expensive cat food, I would. But he said it's fine for her to eat whatever she likes, so that's what she gets.

Unfortunately, vets aren't always that well versed in NUTRITION...neither are MDs.

Honestly, there really aren't too many quality foods at the grocery store.

Exactly...most vets really don't have much of a clue on nutrition.

I bought some Newman's Own food at the pet store last night. I read somewhere that it is supposed to be good, but man is it expensive! I will see how this goes. The pet store had a ton of brands to choose from, so I will keep trying.

My little guy with the colitis is going to start probiotics tomorrow.

I have 2 that almost exclusively eat canned food and 2 that eat mostly dry food and 1 that will eat whatever you give her.

I have been trying some of the more expensice brands based on what I have read here, but so far I haven't been completely successful. We can't use Cat Chow, it make one of my boys throw up really bad. I will keep trying until I find one that works well for all of us. My female is about 15 years old and has a hard time eating dry food (but she still trys) so I have to buy canned food and my youngest male very rarely eats dry food if at all.

We are on one now that I bought at Petsmart and Target that is in a brown bag, so far so good.

We tried a bunch of them because one kitty's a bit sensitive & ended up coming back to Science Diet because it was the only one he didn't react to. The other two did fine on all of them.

If you don't have a pet food store nearby, a lot of stores ship from online now, and you can buy pet food from Amazon as well. Might be an option for you?

I saw the Chicken SOup one, but DH thought this one was on sale. Turned out it wasn't. I just didn't feel like going back to look more.

I had my persian eating the Solid Gold Katzenflocken but it made his poo smell really bad and it gave him equally bad gas--not fun. So we ended up switching him over to Royal Canin for persians. He loves it and he smells so much better. Plus it is easier for him to eat...he doesn't really chew his food, just swallows.

Mine eat Natural Choice for wet food and Purina Pro plan for dry. I know PPP is not the best but they love it.

Denine,

Let me know how your little guy does. I had a cat with IBD and used probiotics, metonidozole, then steroids. Anything to stop both ends from flowing!!

My kiddos (3) eat IAMS and Royal Canin (flipping expensive but good for them)

We have a puker, and recently started her on Science Diet Sensitive Stomach. Wow! What an improvement! Even though it is expensive, it is much better than cleaning up cat yack! Not to mention, she must feel better.

FWIW, we have used SD in the past and been very pleased with it.

My three eat IAMS Multi-cat - they are all indoor cats, ages 1-3. They seem to like it and are all healthy so we'll stick with that for now, although Hershey is having some urinary tract issues so we're hunting around for a supplment to make him feel better.

I got some samples of Taste of the Wild last weekend and my cat loved it. As soon as she finishes her bag of Purina One I'm switching her to Taste of the Wild. FWIW, my puppy loved the samples of TotW too, and I'm switching him over from Canidae/Innova to Taste of the Wild too. He's a very picky eater and this is the first food he's ever eaten without it being spiced up with people food.

We fed our dog California Natural when he couldn't eat anything else due to allergies and he did great on it. They also make a cat food, which I assume is the same high quality.

I checked out our new local Tractor Supply Co and got a 20lb bag of Diamond Naturals cat food for $14.99 and that was their regular price. On one of the other pet websites, it was listed at $24.99.

June 5-7 TSC is having a huge pet product sale and the prices are unbelievable, plus if you join their e-mail you can get a $5.00 coupon and there are also coupons on the brochure the girl handed me at the store.

From now on we will use TSC for all our pet needs, because they also have products I need for my rabbits as well.

My Tractor Supply hasn't had the Diamond Naturals lately so I have to go to the feed store and it's a little more expensive. But it's the only thing my cats will eat so I have to get it.
