Need a computer and clueless

I haven't bought a new computer in forever since I've had my Sony since 04? I had a dell given to me but didn't like it and ended up giving it to someone else. It was just so slow in getting started and took forever to load anything. Well now I need a laptop for work and have just a few requirements. It needs to start up and load quickly from the time I open it. I will be taking appointments while at work, while traveling etc. So I need to be able to speak to the person on the other line and quickly get the appointment software up and running. I need it to be used for the internet, email and one computer program. What should I be looking for in the computer descriptions? My budget is $1200 or less. There are so many brands now! Whats the good and bad of the bunch?

I would get a Dell. Your last Dell issues were most likely caused by not enough memory. We have 4 Dell laptops and they are all very fast. Our oldest one started slowing down quite a bit, we upgraded the memory for not a lot of money and it works great now.

from what you describe I'd almost suggest you look at some of the high end netbooks or even the newest Mac Air with the flash memory. That thing is instant on and way cool.
