Need a Carnival expert...

Hi all--long time no see... I need help.

Our school is hosting a Halloween Carnival, and I've received donations of attraction tickets, gift certificates for food, and other miscellaneous odds and ends.

We originally solicited everyone with the intention of getting just enough in donations for a costume contest, but we're WAY past that now...we've received Spurs tickets, Schlitterbahn tickets, Hooters gift certificates, Horse racing boxes, Mission baseball boxes, and much more.

Our school needs the money, and so I need a clever way to get rid of these items and collect money for them. One person on the committee originally suggested a silent auction, another a raffle...

Neither of these seems quite right. Do you have any interesting or clever ways that I might be able to get rid of these items and collect money for them? The more money the better...

You might want to have what is called a Chinese raffle (or auction maybe?) auction. What you do is put a raffle ticket box in front of each item and have people place their raffle ticket in the item that they would like to win.

Since you have some really nice prizes what you might want to do is assign 3 levels of prizes. The highest level being maybe red, Medium might be Blue and Low might be green.

Sell the tickets at 3 for $5 giving each person one red, one blue and one green ticket for the $5. If people want to buy more tickets sell them indivually or bundled. If they want only red sell them for $3 a piece or 2 tickets for $5, only blue make it $2 a piece or 3 tickets for $5, only green make it $1 a piece or 7 tickets for $5.

That way the people who really want to win a certain prize have a better chance of winning what they want if they are willing to buy enough tickets.

I agree with Ripleysmom. I volunteer at the RCC and for our annual fundraiser we do this with some items. It can be a good moneymaker!
